  • Bras/Lingerie Help

This isn't a "help me pick out sex clothes" thread, I promise!

I just got fitted last week for bras (which hasn't happened since before I got married), and a lot has changed post-baby.

Somehow, I went from a 38D to a 34DDD (trust me, this is not what you're picturing), and while the bras do fit, I'm still super skeptical on the cup size.

    1) Who carries this size in stock, in house?
    2) Should I go to another store and get a second opinion?
    3) How do you find lingerie in that size?

I have no plastic, and I'm 8 mos. post-weaning, hence the skepticism on cup size.

Have you re-measured yourself at home? How did the bras fit that you tried on? Where did you get fitted?

Smaller bands and larger cups seems to be a recurring theme from bra sizers. The last one I talked to said all the support comes from the band, so that probably explains the smaller band size. And then manufacturers probably make smaller cups to go with smaller bands, so then you need bigger cups?

Of course, I don't know the answers to your actual questions. You're way out of my league.

I think too-big band size and too-small cup size is the most common mistake women make. I heard somewhere that most of us are wearing the wrong size bra. The cup size is relative to the band size, so for example the cup of a 32C is the same size as a 34B. That's why you went up in cup size -- because the band got smaller -- not because your boobs got bigger, necessarily! No idea where is best to buy them... I wear a somewhat typical size and I have tons of trouble finding anything that fits right.

If you went to intimacy, they're sizing is off (I think they use smaller increments between sizes)...but they find a great fit!

I went to Victoria's Secret - I've heard I should go to Nordstrom's, but DH was with me and could watch the baby, and I didn't have a lot of time.
I should add that I weigh less than when I got pregnant with DS, and have toned up considerably since then, so I think the band size is pretty spot-on.

(I was tired of wearing bras that literally hung off my boobs).

Yeah, definitely go to Nordy's instead of VS.

I have some experience with this topic....

About two years ago, I finally went to a specialty bra store (carried lots of different brands) and got fitted. When the fitter was out of the dressing room, I put the brand/size of every bra that fit into the notes section of my phone. I bought one bra at the store, then went home, got online, and ended up at herroom.com. I haven't looked back....and at a 38FF, I don't know that there are many places to look anyway! I had looked at Nordstrom, but I was underwhelmed with the selection for non-geriatric, non-surgically enhanced breasts. There are tutorials at herroom that even help you find the best bra in your size for your breast shape. The bras I have gotten are pricey...between $50-$60, but they have made a world of difference in how my clothes fit and how I feel when I am wearing them! Check it out, and good luck!

Also, the placement of the cups on the band (how near or far apart) can make a difference, too. Larger band sizes have the cups placed further apart.

Don't buy ANY bras from VS, particularly if you're over a B-cup. Their bras don't last long after their first wash and aren't well-made. I've never had one from VS that didn't fall apart quickly.

Yes. And...there bras that I like are about $50. Who the hell shops there?

Target bras definitely outlive... but they don't have a wide range of sizes, and when I used to wear them I had long-term marks on my sternum from the wire-ends poking me (even new ones that weren't wearing through)! A lot of cheaper bras are just less comfortable, especially around the band if they have bad construction (flimsy fabric with lots of elastic at the edges, ugh). I was kind of in love with the VS Incredible bras with the flat, no-elastic band and the padded underwire -- SO comfy! But they discontinued them, and the only ones I could ever find in the semi-annual sale were hot pink and other bright colors. Maidenform has a similar version but I can never find my size in stores. If someone has found the perfect bra, I would sure love to hear about it!

Apparently there's some company out of the UK that has amazing bras as well as a different method of measuring. Oddly enough, my coworker was telling me about it over lunch last week! I don't remember the name, but I'll ask her tomorrow. She is an H cup, so she's kind of my boob expert. Haha

My Dillard's has a ton of bras in 34DDD. Wacoal, LeMysterie and Chanelle are brands I know come in those sizes. And you probably are that size. I'm a 32DDD/E and at my fullest was a 34I/J (milk). The Nordies people looked at me and measured 36C but when they actually fit me with a bra, it always comes out 32 DDD/E/F depending on how the manufacturer sizes.
