  • Clothes for beach photos

We are going to the beach for spring break! First spring break trip ever! What should we dress in for a family photo shoot? I like the look of white or light blue. I pictured the 4 girls in white dresses, DH in khaki shorts and a white buttoned shirt. I am at a loss for me. should I wear a white sundress or white/khaki shorts and a white top?

We just had beach photos taken on our vacation last week and I wish I had known it was complimentary at the resort I also would have done white. There were several families there in white, either all white or white with khaki and it looked very nice. I was glad that I had a dress for myself, I did think it dressed it up a bit. Ours turned out ok with what we had to throw together but next year I will be prepared.

White and khaki are good and traditional. I also love Hawaiian shirts or overly dressy.

I like white too, but I wouldn't do completely all white on everyone. It could turn you all into a big white blob

One of the photo dressing tips I read that I thought was THE BEST advice is "Pick mom's outfit first and coordinate everyone to mom."

Seriously, find a dress/outfit *you* feel great in and can move in, and then coordinate everyone else to you. You will like the pictures and the experience so much more.

As far as color, it depends on what the beach looks like. Really pale sand with a pale blue sky would need different colors than darker sand and a deeper sky.

We wore color and I was happy with the way the pics came out. I kinda think white and khaki beach pics are too cliche.

                      Super cute Michele!

White and khaki is probably still the most common combo, but I think some color can look quite nice and is a refreshing change. I did a family beach portrait session late last year where mom was in a black and blue dress, daughter had a black top and shorts, son had a blue and white shirt with jeans. I thought it came out well. Really as long as everyone is coordinated but not matchy-matchy, you're probably fine.

These were the colors we ended up with and they did stand out nicely...

We're attempting family photos in a couple weeks. IDK whether we will be indoors or outside because the weather has been so unpredicatable. Literally 50 one day and then 6" of snow the next. I am so dreading picture day. Last time, the closest thing we got to a family photo was DrK and I smooching while holding the boys upside-down by their ankles. The result was a cute shot born out pure desperation. MILK was annoyed because it was too spontaneous and they could not see our faces well.
