Higher-end jeans, cashmere sweaters, silk tops, and other classics that fit well and are made from better fabrics? Totally worth it, even used. That's the difference to me - resale shopping makes my preferred clothing more accessible.
Completely agree, cheap clothes are never worth the price.

I was completely unimpressed with the VW line at Kohls. It looked like it would fall apart if you sneezed.

Aaand what the heck does popping tags mean?

The stores I am talking about are Dillards, Ann Taylor, WHBM, Banana, etc. I have gotten great deals at those places when they have 40% or 50% off their sale prices. Online, I can score some awesome deals too from those same stores and online stores like The Clymb, 6pm, Rue La La, Gilt, etc.

I must live in a crappy place for resale, thrift/consignment because I have never found anything that was a great deal. Then again, I do not go there often enough so I may miss more than hit.

I am also not good at thrifting but I think it is also because I haven't found the good stores - there are several here but I haven't tried them yet.

I also get great deals on stuff at Macy's and Nordstroms from their sale/clearance racks. I don't usually shop ahead because i have no idea what size my kids will be. Hopefully I'll get some shopping in this weekend because they are BOTH severely lacking in summer clothes.

Thrift stores are REALLY hit or miss. I used to volunteer in one and the stock frequently varies from one day to the next. Your ability to find anything good is really just pure luck.

I kinda loved working at a TS. It was fun and I got a chance to check things out. My cookbook collection became embarrassing large during that time. I also found some GREAT deals on decent name brand items. Some of my favorite finds were a pair of 7 for all Mankind jeans for DD1, a Kate Spade handbag, and a vintage Christian Dior cashmere sweater. I almost exclusively bought the kids' clothes there for quite a while and they were THRILLED.

I give props to any rapper who has the balls to rep The 12th Man AND brag about thrift stores. Way to break that Seattle stereotype.

"The 12th Man" in Seattle refers to Seahawks fans because they are SOOOO loud that it interferes with the other team's ability to communicate, resulting in the most false start penalties in the league for their opponents.

Medped, I buy my Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and White House at Goodwill. AT and BR usually cost about $3 for tops, $6 for pants or skirts. WH is usually about $7 per item. I've never done that well shopping clearance.

Love me some eBay. I used to live in thrift stores but can't beat the convenience of something arriving in the mail.

Ooh, I forgot all about this. Ebay is my favorite source for used leather goods. I have this great brown leather bomber-style jacket - very slim and slightly cropped, Nine West I think? that I got on Ebay for around $50. I also got a couple great vintage envelope clutches a few years back. I've occasionally looked for the perfect black leather moto jacket, but haven't found it yet.
