Why do they cost so much...
I went to Macy's, and the quilts cost the same as the comforters. Plus, they are all so beautiful, I can't pick one.

    Anyone else?

Good quality fabric for a queen sized quilt can easily run $200-300.

This! This is on my splurge list - custom made quilts for the master bedroom - extra large so I get some coverage when DH burritos himself!

What would a twin sized one run? Your family is so craftily talented

It depends. What style do you have in mind? Modern quilts with big blocks are really neat, but they are pricy because you cannot use your scraps in the quilt. If you are supplying the fabric, obviously the cost is less. However, depending on what you want, she can get the fabric closer to wholesale prices.

I'm sure I posted what I made for Sophie before - this was made from scraps from my sister's apron making business, so the fabric costs were really low (I paid her by the pound).

Ahhh, here is the link to that thread. http://www.medicalspouse.com/forums/...ighlight=quilt

Also, if you aren't picky about colors, I can see if my sister is willing to sell her scraps (again by the pound) of an entire fabric line so that there are at least 4 different fabrics. It will be cheaper than buying fabric new, but you will be limited by her current fabric selection.

Otherwise, you can contact her directly at maxine at threesistersquilting dot com and she can go over specifics with you.

Quilts make me so nostalgic! I learned to quilt from my great-grandmother. I grew up quilting with my great-gma, gma, and mom around the quilting frame.

They are, for sure, family heirloom and investment pieces.

I've been having such trouble trying to upload these pictures. I love the finished quilt from HoW's mom! She did an awesome job. It has already been home to many picnics
