  • Interview Suit?

What kind of suit are men wearing on interviews these days? What color pants and jacket?

DH hasn't interviewed anywhere in a couple of years, but it seems like navy blue or charcoal gray are pretty safe and timeless.

I second the charcoal color. I'm not a huge fan of pinstripes, but that is just personal preference.

My husband wore navy with a herringbone pattern (just the fabric, not any colors in the pattern) from Jos A Banks. He has a nice charcoal suit with very subtle pinstripes too, I think.

I kinda heart Jos A Banks. It's the ONLY place where I can buy dress clothes for DH off the rack and have them fit perfectly. Their athletic-cut dress shirts are literally the only ones that fit DH's stupid sizes.

Now, if I could just find slacks that fit his stupid sizes...

Oh, BTW - Keep an eye out at Brad's Deals. Jos A Banks occasionally has some crazy good sales listed there.

DD - come visit Cleveland. DH has a guy. He works with our budget, is a small business owner, tells DH what looks good, what doesn't, what is appropriate to wear in what situation, and he's right on the money. Nothing looks better than well tailored clothing!

Seriously, if he can make DH look great, I'm all over that. Dude already has weird sizes, but add to the scenario all the weightlifting and it's just a ridiculous situation. The ONLY thing I can buy easily for him is underwear. His shoe size is 14-15, so even finding some damn socks is a hunt.

                Just a thought...

When buying a suit, buy two pants for the one jacket. It is a good investment. Since our spouses wear white coats with the pants, the pants tend to wear out faster than the jacket.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Hm. We may need this when DH goes to interview for The Job...

Exactly what DH and I said when one of his groomsmen sent him a picture of a suit he was considering, which was double breasted. Except, I think DH referenced Train conductor. Still, made me laugh that you said the same thing.

I love the look of a charcoal suit.

Thank you for the advice. DH has worked every day recently and never made it to get a suit. He is working today for 24 hours and leaves tomorrow morning for the interview. So he has a brown jacket, navy blue jacket, a pair of brown pants and a black suit. Slim pickings. He had some ridiculous pleated pants that I made him get rid of. He is 5' 10 and has a stocky athletic build. He has to get size 48 jackets to accommodate his shoulders. Which one should he wear? The black suit is the newest.

The pants are darker than they appear in the picture. After the suit choice, I need to know what color shirt.

The hospital has academic ties but it is it's own entity. Please help. Thanks!

I would do the black suit. And I like a crisp French blue shirt with black. I don't know if that's the fashionista recommendation though.

My husband votes black suit, as well. I asked what shirt and he said, "well what kind of ties does he have?" He is also no fashionista, though.

Old school suits are longer in the jacket. Rule of thumb used to be that you should be able to grab the bottom of the jacket with all four fingers when standing up straight. See how much shorter this jacket is?

Also skip a double breast unless he is captaining a boat or Nyles Crane. Get a single breast w two buttons and tell him to only button the top one, never the bottom. When he sits, unbutton it. Button again when standing.

Newscasters sit on the tail of their jackets to prevent the shoulder hunch but with a shorter jacket that's not as much an option nor issue.
                            This. Exactly.

And don't wear a stupid colored shirt. Wear white. And not a fruity-toot, silly, vapid tie. Something dignified. You're not a metrosexual Calvin Klein model. You're a doctor.
