Colored skinny jeans

Am I too late to this party? I have a couple outdoor concerts in the next couple weeks and I hate hate hate shorts. I have so many bruises from moving that a skirt isn't going to work either - I look like an accident victim. So I want a fun, summery outfit without the leg revealing. Can I do colored skinny jean, with a cute tank top or blouse? Or is this trend on its way out? I'm usually good with these things, but I've been living in a trendless fashion cave and haven't had to look "cool" for a couple years so I'm nervous! Help meeee!

If it's on it's way out, I've not gotten the memo. I love colored skinny jeans and judging by the fact that they are ALL over the stores, I'd say you're safe. I'm currently loving either a mint green color, or a salmon/coral color. Paired with a flowy tank to offset the form fitting skinny jeans (like this one: http://www.express.com/catalog/produ...ryId=cat290002), I completely love that look. I tend to stick to cream or black with the tanks, so I've got the jeans as the pop of color, and can accessorize with gold bangles and a statement necklace. Slap on a cute t-strap sandal and it's the perfect outdoor concert outfit.

I love these light summer tops - I can still wear them when pregnant because a lot of them are longer at the back, which is also great if you have hips.
I miss my red skinny jeans. I also hate shorts and a colorful pair of jeans are a great alternative. Most of mine are from Old Navy, they do a great skinny jean that's light and perfect for summer.

Very true about Old Navy. They also have great colors, too. If you're not totally put off by the neon trend, try a neon. I used to hate them, but they've grown on me and I've tried out an orange and yellow lately and it's a really fun summer color to wear. Nothing offensive, but brighter than your regular pastel yellow or orange (or pink, etc).

Ok, maybe I'll try ON. I went to Target over lunch and tried some on, and although I think I like them in theory, in practice it was a mess. Target's skinnies are super-tight in the ankle/calf, and even when I tried them on a size too big, they gaped in the waist and were uncomfortably tight in the calf. And I do NOT have big muscular calves, haha. Also, the denim was really thin and soft, and was not very forgiving - enhancing every single lump and bump. So basically I felt like a cellulitey sausage. I'm not even a bigger person, I don't know how anyone wears those. Ugh. That was almost as bad as swimsuit shopping. I'll try again later.

Hm, nothing fits me at Loft or Ann Taylor, I'm too tall. Everything there fits like a short, baggy sack on me. I'll try Express too though. I usually have to shell out for Joe's Jeans if I want them to fit well, but I'm not going to pay too much for colored jeans because they seem such an in-and-out trend and I'm not sure if I'll love them.

Also, if you want to avoid showing your legs, try a maxi-dress or a peasant skirt. They are surprisingly comfortable and easy to wear.

OH! Great point. I am allll about maxi dresses this summer (and last summer too). Actually, I just found two that are unbelievably flattering and budget friendly. DH went crazy for them, and he usually is just "yeah, looks good. If you like it, keep it". Something about this dress is figure flattering, the neckline is flattering, and it's flowy in a sexy way. At least, it was on me. And since I'm short, most maxi dresses are only good in theory for me. In execution they are too long. Disclaimer: the photograph of this dress does not do it justice, again, at least how it hung on me. Looked much better IMO.

I love a good maxi dress. I have one that I got last summer at TJ Maxx and it is freaking awesome! It is a dressier version, in a deep navy with a grecian style knot in the front. As a single gal, I will say that each time I have worn it to impress, it,um, worked.

Hm, I only have one maxi dress and it's a fairly loose, plain style. Because of my height it hits just a little bit short on my ankle, so I generally only wear it for lounging and as a swim cover-up. I usually stick with slimmer bottoms and looser tops because I'm a little bit pear-shaped and emphasizing my top doesn't do anyone a favor. I might have to hit the mall right after work tonight...

I am definitely pear shaped and I have found that a flowy empire waist maxi is perfect, particularly in a high quality jersey. If flows over my ample hips, but accentuates that bit of cleavage that I can wrest from a good push up bra.

Also, MSB, if you do check out ON, they do have tall lines (5'9" and taller). I seem like I"m really pushing ON, but I just got lucky with those dresses this week and paid for two of them what I would have paid for not even a whole maxi at Nordie's or Loft, so I'm in their corner this week (we've had issues before, ON and I)

Kris, I'm totally jealous that you have (or had) good luck at TJ Maxx. I have never once had a successful trip to TJ Maxx, Marshall's etc. I don't know what it is but I strike out every time. I have friends who outfit their entire closets with amazing gem finds from TJM, etc. I just don't have the "eye" or the timing.

My sister has great luck with ON, but when I am there I strike out.

TJ Maxx is completely hit or miss. More miss than hit. But, I've also gotten pretty lucky too. There is a slight flaw in the dress that I bought there, the knot in the center of the bodice is slightly off center. It bugs me, but isn't all that noticeable when worn.

Cute dress! I can see how a waistline like this one or the one WPW showed would be more figure flattering. I have to admit though, I feel really exposed just wearing a thin layer of jersey! Denim is my armor - even if it is more form-fitting. I don't remember the last day I didn't wear jeans! Sigh. Every year at the beginning of summer I feel too pale and gross to wear light, flowy things, and by the time I adjust it's the end of the season.
