  • Fashion: Maternity/Post-Partum Must Haves?

A friend of mine is writing a fashion/lifestyle blog for new moms. She's asking for input regarding "must haves" to make gestating/postpartum mommas feel human. Being that I'm on my 3rd, you'd think I'd have this down by now but I'm drawing a blank. So far, I've come up with:

    - daily shower, even if it's only 5 minutes and you cannot shave your legs
    - concealer/BB cream, lipstick, mascara
    - v-neck t-shirts/nursing tanks with drapey "spit up proof" blouses
    - comfy, modest, attractive pjs that you wouldn't be embarrassed to wear in front of your father-in-law or other guests
    - nursing necklace, light scarf, or other baby-safe accessories

As many pillows as you need to sleep "comfortably" while pregnant.

A water bottle that you can carry with a couple fingers (something with a loop).

White noise - both to help baby sleep and to drown out those barely-audible newborn noises that don't actually mean anything, but still keep you up (or is that just me???)

Quickly accessible (non-perishable) healthy snack stations, set up around the house for the ravenous nursing mother

I second the water bottle, and add a spill proof tumbler to it - keeping a warm drink warm and off of your baby is nice

      Chilled witch hazel pads

Stool softeners (sexy, eh?): to help with the fear...

One of the meal planning websites that allows friends and family to sign up and coordinate delivering food to the house

The knowledge that around Day 3 or 4, the mother will experience a huge hormonal shift, and she will be an emotional wreck for no reason: people around her to affirm her, and comfort her. Normal.

Not a mom but my feet must be comfortable so I can only imagine how comfy flats would be pivotal for moms...And a bag that's big enough for all the necessities but looks good.

I'm going to expand on 13's last point - have people you can call to give you a break if needed. Also have people that won't try and "fix" why you are ugly-crying!

Comfortable and stretchy tank tops in a thousand basic colors to go under all you clothes for easy and discreet nursing.
            A pretty nursing cover

A really nice pair of maternity jeans? I think my SIL didn't buy any, and that was her recent complaint - I wear mine ALL the time.
A few solid maternity shirts that allow for layering with normal cardigans.
Bra extenders - for when you want to keep wearing your current bras before you switch to nursing bras but don't want to buy new ones to fit your now-larger ribcage.
Comfortable but cute slippers (I love my orthaheels)
Compression stockings - OK, these may not be fashionable, but I feel a million times better when I wear them.
