    Printer/Scanners

    My poor printer is on its last leg, and I'm too lazy to do a lot of really good research right now... I am looking for an all-in-one printer (print/scan/copy) with a flatbed scanner (not the kind you feed paper through). Do any of you have a printer like that that you love? Ideally the cartridges wouldn't be too expensive. Am I asking too much?

    I have one of each- flat bed scanner and laser printer. I don't like all in ones. I'm happy with both so if you decide on separates I'll list what I have.

        Ides, what brands do you have? What made you decide on separate ones?

        V, what do you like about yours? Do the cartridges seem to last awhile? I feel like I'm always replacing mine.

          You can get XL cartridges for it! They aren't too pricy either. I only order ink every 3-4 months and I print a lot!

            I have an Epson XP-400 and am very happy with it. Cost was around $100 and it was easy to configure. It's wireless and the scanning/printing functions work great with all systems, including Mac, Windows and Linux. I've only replaced the black cartridge so far (about $15). It gets light use, I print a few pages a week on average.

              I have an Okidata B431 dn laser printer. The cartridges are kind of expensive however. I didn't realize that until we had it though. Its a fast, nice printer. For a flat bed scanner I have the Canon Canoscan lide 110.

              I don't trust combo machines. One part always breaks then you have this half functioning monstrosity and still need the other component.

                Forgot to mention that we have scanned hundreds and hundreds of pages on the scanner - entire residency file. Dh also prints lots of medical crap, so the printer gets an average workout.

                  How often do you scan? If it's infrequent, DH and I both use TurboScan on our phones, and it's awesome.

                    We had bad luck with ink jets. We had an HP and Cannon. The HP quit working after a while (maybe a couple years). The Cannon worked well at first, but then the images started looking crappy. It seemed like we were replacing ink all the time with both. We decided to get an inexpensive Brother laser jet and it's been awesome. I don't like printing photos at home (I use Costco or Mpix) so we just got a black and white one. I think in the last couple years we've only replaced the toner once.

                      I have an Epson workforce all in one inkjet and have been happy with it. I use the fax portion all the time and when combined with Ooma, the quality is just fine.
