  • Doc's gifts?

OK, what are you giving your doc? We typically don't exchange but rather do stuff like Date night, big house items, or getaways without kids. Nonetheless, this has been a big year for us and I'm kind of feeling like it might be a personal, heart felt gift year. What, pray tell, does one buy for Dr. Impossible-to-buy-for?

We are very blessed in that if we really, really, really want something, we go buy it ourselves. I just bought myself new running shoes and inserts as well as a canvas gallery wrap from a photography session of the family. He has an Ebay problem and buys himself hockey paraphenelia and the like whenever his little heart desires something. He typically is pretty simple and straight forward dude and would laugh at a fancy watch or the like. Help?

Ok this year I am getting him an extra long camping chair lounger as he mentioned the one he has lets his feet hang off. I am also getting him a framed US map where we can put pins about where we've been and where we would like to go since he loves our camping trips.

In the past I have taken some of his wonderful pictures he took on our trips and had them frames. Last year I took and framed some of his mission trip photos with some memorabilia from the trip ( hanging that patients made, etc.). I have bought concert tickets for the spring of some of his favorite artists. The kids are getting him one of those scales that you can hook on the trunks/luggage to find out how much they weigh since we are taking so many mission trips and getting each trunk as close to that 50 pound limit as possible.

I got him a turntable for all his old records. (Which he then used to turn all of them into mp3 for his ipod.) I've gotten him grill accessories. I've given him movie/tv collections: MASH, John Wayne, Star Trek, etc An ipod speaker for the operating room .

That is all I can think of right now.

This year the men in my life are getting my hand-crafted shaving soap. Some will get a nice brush along with it.

this year we aren't buying gifts and calling the impending baby our gift but in the past some of the better gifts I have gotten him were a complete Calvin and Hobbs set and some new books by authors he likes. My DH typically just buys the few things he wants so I know how hard it is to come up with a good gift.

Probably getting DH one of these:
          https://onlycoin.com and a soda stream.

The best thing I ever got him is:

          http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003JX...r=8-1&pi=SY200

It's gone up in price a lot. It is heavy as hell, and I would hate it, but he lurves it and gets compliments on it constantly. I appreciate the compliments because it's a reminder to him of how badly he screwed the pooch on our 15th anniversary.

Also, if he ever helps you cook, as a surgeon he ought to appreciate a really nice set of knives. That's what we did for a joint anniversary gift this year.

Experience gifts are awesome. Tickets to a hockey game or concert?

I'm doing a personalized wall-mounted bottle opener. Then some mini whiskey bottles as stocking stuffers (he's recently started enjoying whiskey).

I thought I was going to die the time Dr. V was slicing beef to make dinner and he said that he has pretty good knife skills. I mean really? I sure as hell hope he does since he cuts people for a living!

                  ?
My husband got me a set of expensive knives from Germany a couple of Christmases ago. (This was a gift for whom???) Big mistake. I hate those knives and I've cut myself on them tons of times, once needing stiches. It is a family joke now, but hubby loves them.

A new stethoscope for mine. He researched the hell out of it and could barely contain himself when it arrived. He's already planned out several things he'll do first when he gets it in his hands on Christmas (I didn't know there were many options with scopes but apparently he plans to configure it just so, then listen to everyone within reach because he's more well versed in heart sounds now. Yay.). In his stocking I think I'll put some whiskey rocks and maybe a couple DVDs and other random trinkets.

DH said the only thing he wants is a 5s - fine - done!

His favorite soccer team is playing in the MLS final this weekend too so win or lose I'll buy him a pull-over or jacket or something. We have lots of Jayhawk stuff in this house but are severely lacking in the other leagues.

Otherwise, I have no idea - I need something for his stocking because last year Santa brought me something but not him because I didn't know we were doing Santa for each other. The kids were very confused.

In the past I have bought him a nice watch and a nice leather bag which didn't last because he overloads it.

New boat shoes (Topsiders), some new t shirts, and a organizer for his tools/home improvement stuff.

I've recommended the family get him (bc no one ever thinks of gifts for him on their own): a new Ravens jersey, Jerusalem cookbook (that thing is awesome!), pajama pants, and an iPhone case with the kids picture on it.
