  • Gift ideas for the doc

This is a frequent topic on the board so maybe we should sticky it. I'm not a great gift giver but I did come up with two great ideas recently.

I'm buying DH a Pollos Hermanos tshirt and some surgical scrub caps with his alma mater from Etsy. There are some amazing old school star wars and atari tshirts too.

If you all come up with an AHA! gift idea, let's add to this thread because sometimes gift giving is impossible.

I think a sticky is a great idea! This site has anatomical chocolates: http://visualanatomy.com/shop/

DH wants engraved luggage tags, but I'm not willing to do that until we're settled.

There are places online to get anatomical jewelry (GMW??). DH wants some c-spine cuff links

I got asked about our plans for Father's Day (not by DH).
      Oh crap!

I already have his card, but have nothing else (our anniversary is the same time). Having said that, I have nothing for the anniversary, so...

My husband goes away to a driving event every Father's Day. It kind of pisses me off. Most of the other participants are retired or don't have kids living at home; my guy is "young blood". Still, you can't say no if they want to do something on Fathers Day, right? I thought it was only Moms that wanted to be away from their kids on the day they celebrated parenthood. Lol.

At least it gets us out of a gift situation....

Honestly, it depends on what your guy is like. For mine, here are some big hits:

There is a painting that shows Jesus at the shoulder of the surgeon in the middle of surgery. It is hanging in his office.

He LOVES our kids, so I've done various pictures. Some of the cutest had the boys in scrubs "examining their sister.

He takes great pictures. After a trip to Alaska I had some of his photographs blown up and framed.

Haven't done it yet, but he wants to fly in an old plane...

My next present will be the maps of the world and the US with pins to mark where you have been.

I got him a record player...grin... he used it to convert all of his old albums to digital. (Complete with skips.)

MASH tv series!!!! ( Fill in your husband's favorite.)

          Any and all war movies.

          Tools of various kinds.

Helped the kids make things: t-shirts with handprints, mugs, etc.

          Stuff for the grill.

Whiskey sampler box is the birthday gift I'm planning. We bought DH a beautiful handmade leather shoulder bag a few months ago that he said was his anniversary gift so I guess I'm off the hook..?

                Gift ideas for the doc

God the most successful gifts I've given my husband in the past year or so have been a stethoscope (you'd have thought he was a kid getting his first puppy), a subscription to national geographic (which is now just collecting dust as each new issue arrives bc he doesn't have time to read it) and a bottle of Laphroaig. Everything else was sort of run of the mill. I'm not a great/creative gift giver either and prefer for him to tell me what he really wants/needs instead of wandering around trying to be all wifley and creative

I got DH cuff links for graduation - they contained a pair of kidneys cut in the style of an old medical drawing. Found them on Etsy. He LOVES them and a southern residency program means lots of opportunity to wear them!
Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)
