  • Subtle Superhero Decor?

We are in the process of buying a house and we asked the K Bros what colors they want for their rooms. They responded with their hopes for all out theme rooms.

K1 wants superheroes. Specifically Batman but others are ok too. I really don't want to go with a completely literal design with the batman sheets and logos everywhere but I'm having a hard time finding subtle/tasteful superhero decor. suggestions?

K2 originally requested a Hulk room with holes in bright green walls and shredded drapes. Since that's not going to happen, I think he may be persuaded to do a safari themed room which I can totally do.

I'd go with similar paint and bedding colors as Batman or what ever superhero your child likes. I would not invest in too much furniture/wall decor etc. because they grow out of the superhero fascination so quickly. Paint and bedding colors are easy to update down the road. Pretty much as soon as the paint dries, superheros are old news and then they are all about another theme. At least that what it feels like with my boys. My boys were all about trains until around kindergarten, then it was Star Wars/Legos and now it's all about sports for my oldest.

That said, I do like Batman bookshelf and the wall decor quote about being yourself/Batman that Heidi posted above. It is also stuff that would be easy to update when they are older.

I think I'd just go for a giant bat symbol on the wall in paint and a yellow and black color scheme. Maybe hang a cape from a hook. Easy enough to paint over when the phase passes.

I'd do a Fathead sticker. My daughter wanted an Elsa room. The walls of the room are a grey/beige (the color they came when we bought the house), I added a huge Elsa sticker, painted some baskets and a mirror rim Elsa blue, hung some snowflake ornaments with command hooks, and she thinks it's the best Elsa room ever. Everything can be easily removed and it was very inexpensive.

I second the wall decals. There are TONS out there on amazon. This is how I decorated Eli's room since we are in an apartment. Its easily removed and looks cute.

Here are a couple things I'd pinned (I'm not smart enough to figure out how to link to Pinterest so they are links to the actual sites).

Some of these retro tin signs are cool. Amazon has a bunch and they are pretty cheap.

You could also use contact paper (like you use to line kitchen shelves and drawers) to make your own wall decal. Get white contact paper, paint it black, and cut out the bat symbol. It would be cheap and easily removable if you want to change later on.

I think maybe I would paint a neutral color - maybe even a light gray. Hang some prints, and get some of the throw pillows.

Oh just looking at the rest of Heidi's pins. LOVE them. That fan is so cool!
