  • Help me find a winter coat

I want a winter coat that is both stylish AND warm, but it seems like that doesn't exist. I have to choose one over the other.

I can be cute but cold, or warm and look like I'm about to climb Mount Everest.

I am literally *always* cold, and I have a heavy-duty North Face park that I wear for walking my kids to/from school, but I want something a little less bulky for just running around town.

Does such a thing exist? Anyone have a coat that is cute but practical and keeps them warm?

Search Patagonia's catalogue, then buy on eBay.

      Mackage?

I only have a patagonia puffy - and then Burberry wool dressy coats. Plus I have a patagonia down sweater that I wear all the time.

If it's going to be cold like last year, I'm buying one of those Canadian Goose down coat. They look a bit like I could climb mt Everest, but I was SO F'ING COLD last winter. So I'm ok with that 😉

Watch the sales after fall. I bought a moncler in NYC at 1/2 price for $400 in 2006. It's still my go-to coat. It just started fading last year. It's worth investing in a high quality coat if it's flattering and warm. You will wear it forever!!!

I guess it depends on what you think is cute. I like outdoor / techi wear but definitely don't think of it as cute. I'm really working this year to buy cute but warm sweaters so I can move away from base layer type stuff. I have 4 coats. I didn't purposefully acquire that many but over the last 8 years I've slowly moved north so it's been necessary. I have an old grey BR short coat that I still wear regularly. It's the lightest. Then a long black Marc NY pea style coat I'll wear when I want to dress up but it's not all that warm. Both of those I've had since college and they're still basically in style. When we moved to the Midwest I got a big black North Face down which can almost be too warm at times. So last year I got an Arc'terx light down which has turned out to be just as / if not more warm than the North Face. Then again, I do LOVE coats. I always have to resist the temptation to even try them on.

I just spent way too much time looking at down coats on the Nordstrom website thanks to this thread. I had no idea so many options existed!

I think Northface has some really nice coats. Love the white ones with the fur on the hood.

Eddie Bauer is having a 40% off outerwear sale right now. Some warm and cute coats.
