My neighbor is working at Williams Sonoma for the holiday season and has offered to purchase anything for me with her 40% discount ( 50% off sale items). She also says a lot of brands you can get at a department store for way cheaper. I suppose I could price shop online before anything else but it seems like whatever is online may not be the prices in store.

I'm not domestically inclined whatsoever. I have been thinking it's time to get an actual set of pots and pans. And maybe baking gear too. I have one 5x9 pan from there, maybe I should just get more of that set since I clearly have no opinion? It's just so many years until we settle down I don't see any of this as our adult gear. How am I to know what kind of house we're going to live in after training?? But I have literally 3 pots. Small, medium, large. And one spatula. And anything that needs to be graded is done with a julian, which i only purchased so i can garnish cocktails. Probably time to grow up a little..

So what have you purchased from there? What is worth the $$ in your opinion? What do you consider kitchen essentials?

If you're not much of a cook, don't bother. What's worth $$ in the kitchen is what you'll actually use. We have a $30 saucepan from target that we use multiple times a week for probably 7 years now. When I replace that one, it will be with all-clad because it's an absolute essential. Same goes for our 6 qt Dutch oven, it's a cheaper brand but when it is replaced it will be with top quality because we get so much use out of it. Don't buy cookware aspirationally. Buy what you use and need, and when you know it's worth it, get the good stuff.

I actually really like their gold touch bakeware. It bakes easily.

      That and my mom
      Bought her nespresso from
Them and when it broke they replaced it and have her a new one. And it was cheaper so they gave her a credit!

I bought mine from Nespresso directly and they won't do crap if it breaks out of warranty

They have some older Nespresso models on sale now. A must in our house. They also have all the top knife brands. You should try them them first, some will feel more comfortable than others.

Knives. I cannot say enough about having good knives. I think it makes prep so much easier, faster and safer...I have the stitches on one finger to prove what using a bad knife can do. I personally like Shun...I like how it fits my hand. My chef knife gets used miltiple times a day and I have had it for years. DH bought me some others throughout the years but the chef is still my go to.

WS has other brands...I would hold them and see what weight, style you like best.

I really love my mixing bowls and spatulas for there. The spatulas especially are nice because the handle comes out and you can wash the two pieces separately.

Ha - that is why I do not like their spatulas. I have been replacing them with those wooden ones that are totally covered (handle too) with rubber instead. After a while, the tops would slip off the handle and it would be a PITA to dig out of batter etc.

All-Clad pans are spendy but I love cooking with them (though not as much as my Le Creuset - I use it as all purpose, though (soups, sauces, sautéing, bread baking - I'm ridiculous)).

I also love my KitchenAid...but I only use during baking season (otherwise, I get too fat)!

Anything le creuset is sooo worth it imo. The most versatile and sturdy pieces!! I long for all clad and can't wait to be able to upgrade in the near future. We have some nice pieces from our wedding but will definitely invest in all clad in the future. We're pretty maxed out in terms of kitchen items - they are my weakness! But I cook a ton - I really don't know what you may get the most use out of! Like someone up thread said, you can never go wrong with knives, even if you're just slicing limes for cocktails

Should add - I'm sort of in the camp that anything you can get at WS can be found way cheaper elsewhere. They have great stuff but nothing super unique to that store that I know of, so if I were in the market for le creuset for example if definitely buy online or at an outlet store. Don't know how the prices will shake out for you with the discount though!

Ditto to the knives and the le creuset. I got one really good santuko knife for our wedding nearly 8 years ago, it's the only "good" (i.e. pricy) knife I have and I use it for seriously everything. Amazing the difference between good and average knives. Same with le creuset. I have one giant dutch oven and use it for way more than it's size would deem it appropriate for.

We got le Creuset Dutch ovens for our wedding. Someday (like a few years into attending good) I'd like to replace all of my cookware with it. Love it

Makes sense! My mom bought me these to replace my old ones, which were all black inside.

If you don't cook much, it probably won't be worth the money, even with the discount. If you like cooking, knives are a wonderful place to start. We love our Shun knives, especially the santoku one. I also feel like I use it almost every day. Besides that one, a paring knife and cutting boards would be good.

I don't really love Le Cruset, except the Dutch oven. The non-stick All Clad skillet is my favorite.
