  • November Stitch Fix

    Otherwise known as "Never Again"

So part of this is my fault because I assumed I would have a kid by Monday the 9th, but I had ordered a postpartum stitch fix to be delivered then. It came four days early...so I had to try it on hugely pregnant. I could still be hugely pregnant Monday, so again, partially my fault but I am annoyed. I knew I wouldn't be back to normal, but I I've done this enough to know I can tell what is going to work for the next 4 months postpartum right after giving birth

I was EXTREMELY detailed in what I wanted and that I was going to be postpartum and needed loose and nursing friendly. I actually specifically asked for two items that Pollyanna gave me the details on because I saw her wear them at the conference and loved them--they couldn't find them and sent replacements instead. It was a total fail. I got:

--A black and white striped form fitting sweater dress that went above and beyond not nursing friendly--this was to replace the jewel blue tunic dress I wanted?

--A form fitting gray sweater dress (also not nursing friendly) with faux leather accents...something I specifically said no to in my style profile

--A sweater with sleeves 4 inches too long that I was swimming in at 9 months pregnant

--An asymmetrical cardigan I actually liked, but couldn't really tell if it would fit right and seemed too large...it fit my huge belly now so I think it would have just bunched up like crazy over my stomach postpartum. I wouldn't have kept it at the price anyway.

--The ugliest patterned top ever in olive green...to replace the solid color emerald green tunic top I requested.

Ironically, this was to use up a credit they gave me because the one maternity stitch fix I asked for was beyond awful.

That stinks. I am dying to start getting them again. A friend signed up with my link, so I have a credit waiting, but I know the responsible thing to do is wait until after Christmas. I really hope my stylist is still around. Seems like they have a lot of really bad ones...

Sorry, ST. That sounds awful for your situation. Are they employing people who can't read?

It's okay. When I quit we can't afford it anyway

Ugh, that must have been disappointing.
I only got one nice sweater in the four fixes I tried so I can't say I'm surprised but still.
I hope you can find something else for postpartum.

That's so frustrating! I put mine on hold until after I have C, because I didn't think it was worth the cost for more maternity wear at this point. I don't know if they grew so big that they started sacrificing good work to keep up, or what, but it's really disappointing when they just flat out don't listen.

I've got a credit from my last failed fix. I'm supposed to get a fix this month. I asked for flared jeans and a denim pencil skirt. We'll see what happens. Overall, I've been unimpressed with the quality of the items they've sent relative to the cost. I mean, $70+ for leggings?

I swear they work on variable reinforcement. My daughter and I are still on every other month "fixes". It's fun mother daughter stuff, so I don't care if we lose the twenty bucks each month. What seems to happen is we both get meh boxes, and send everything back several months in a row then BAM - we get a total winner with everything perfect. That success keeps you hooked in for the next two or three that fail.

I continue to believe they have a bunch of amateurs and some rockstar stylists (or computer generated selections vs real people reading your info/looking at your Pinterest boards). After they blow it enough, they put you with the A team or a real person then cycle you off.

I'm thinking about trying Bento Box....looks nice and no fee. It's professional clothes though.

I think Angie's on to something. I bet they rely more heavily on the computer algorithm until someone complains x amount of times, then a human stylist takes more control of the case.

I just did a quick google and this is the first thing that popped up on Quora:

"The Stitch Fix styling algorithm leverages a combination of machine-learning and expert-human judgment. Machines do all the rote calculations (collaborative filtering, calculate priors, calculate distance and similarity measures, discover and apply weights in logistic regression, train mixed effects models, perform matrix factorization, qualify, rank, sort …etc). The results are then returned to a human stylist who uses her cognitive abilities to do curation, to further contextualize the results, and to connect 1-to-1 with the customer. The goal is to combine the contributions of machines and humans by focusing each on their unique capabilities. We don’t ask machines to empathize and we don’t ask humans to do rote calculations. Together, the contributions can be additive and perform better than either one on their own. It's what we call “Art & Science”."

My November (make up) fix is on it's way. Looks like it might be better than in the past except they included a sheer blouse that has ginormous studded crucifixes over the front. Probably should have told them that I'm Jewish.

Oh wow - it's like they're trying to avoid having you like everything!!

Has anyone tried any of the men's ones? DH's wardrobe needs a refresh and I think he might be more open if the suggestions came from a "stylist" rather than me.

Ooh, I didn't know they'd started men's boxes! I'll see if DH wants to try them when I restart mine.
