  • vacation spots?

Every year my dh and I try to take a long weekend vacation somewhere. Last year we went to Myrtle Beach while my parents spoiled (oops, I mean watched) the baby. We plan to go to some place for four days at the end of April. While Maui and the Italian Riviera sound fantastic, money is an issue. Any suggestions for romantic but affordable getaways?

Of course, I think DC is fab but unless you know where to go, not necessarily romantic. However, here in San Antonio- it's warm, the Riverwalk is really fun and definitely makes you feel like you're on vacation- and it's very inexpensive, particularly when compared with other large cities- (DC, NY, SF)

There are lots of airfare specials and hotel deals right now. Come on down. (It's no colder than 70 during the winter, usually and they're saying that this winter will be warmer than usual!)

Ever consider a spot in Canada? With the dollar as it is now, you can buy a Canadian dollar for about 60 cents US! As far as romantic goes, you could go to Quebec City or Montreal for an old world, Europen type experience, or go to Toronto or Vancouver for the big city experience. If you are into skiing, you could try Banff (near Calgary), Lake Louise (near Banff), or Whistler (near Vancouver). It's so cheap when you are paying with US dollars it's rediculous!

I know I keep harping on travel in Canada, but let's face it, many Americans don't realize how amazing Canada is. And the best part now is that it's sooooo cheap. We get hoards of Americans, European and Japanese tourists for that reason alone.

hehehe...when I saw the title, I knew you were going to post that, Janet...Before you know it, we'll all be romping up to Canada to stay at hotel le granskou!!

I'd have to add a nice trip to germany...heidelberg is a must-see, as is Berlin and probably Neuschwanstein Castle.....If anyone ends up traveling over there, take me with you I'll hide in a suitcase!

I'm with Jennifer, San Antonio is great! I read that something like 50% of the local economy there is tourism. It is a beautiful city with incredibly wonderful people (less bad apples than I've found in other cities it seems). Plus the tourism stuff is actually quite fun AND cheap! Just watch out for the flea markets - MAJOR tourist trap!

It doesn't matter, Jennifer....I think it is more fun when people can come up with signatures.....It was sort of dorky to take them off anyway...

I also think San Antonio is great!

              I love the river walk....

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Dreaming about travel is half the fun. We have a two week tour to Europe mapped out even though we are so far from being able to take such a trip. It is fun to create our dream iteneraries for all the places that we would like to go some day. In the meantime, we may end up going to San Francisco or the Florida Keys.
