Isn't it amazing how ONE good haircut can improve the entire psyche? I finally went yesterday after work and I feel like a new person. Even th guy who cut my hair said, "wow, you look so much better!"

I was months over do (like I should have had it cut in October) but with all of the moving stuff and transferring money in and out of various checking and savings account I just never had funds or time at the same time.

I'm a new person. Boot Camp class starts in four weeks so I've got to get my arse in gear and get back out there or it will be as bad as it was the first time.

I agree! However, a totally bad haircut can have the opposite effect.

I am so glad you found a stylist in your new city that worked. One of the thins I most hate about moving is having to find a new stylist. I have had many a bad cut/style before I find "the one"....and then is time to move again. Grrr.

    Enjoy your new cut!!
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I've been in Richmond for over a year and I still haven't found "the one."

I'm glad you like your hair, Jenn! Pictures?

Try Jean Paul (I think that's the name) in Stuyvesant Plaza. Ask for a good one. They have grades of stylists.

I go to Vidal Sassoon in Chicago. It costs and arm and a leg, but I get a basic cut...and then have dh trim it in between.
Whenever I go, I'm asked how long it has been since my last cut and I tell them that it's been 6-8 months with my husband trimming it. It's so embarrassing. And they give me the runaround about how only trained professionals should cut hair. I'm just trying to save a girl some money.

Oh, I know. I just got lucky yesterday. My previous hair person and I have been together since 1993. We have been together longer than we were with either our first OR second husbands.

I'm super lucky that I've found a woman who does it from home and charges $10 -- yes $10! It costs me $35 for a cut, color, and partial highlights!

Is she the best stylist I've ever had? No - but she's not the worst either, and I've paid LOTS more for really awful cuts.

I found someone here after a year. She's good at a cut that last the 6-8 weeks before I need a color touch-up anyway...but longer than that the cut's a disaster. I was always told that the sign of a good haircut was how it grew out. If that's true, I'm only doing OK.

The worst thing is that she went out on maternity leave and had a friend at the salon cut my hair in her absence. SO MUCH BETTER!!! So, how do you leave your stylist for the chair next door? I don't think it's possible. I'll have to just dream of the cut I could have - and hope she finds motherhood too demanding to maintain her client list. :>

I was so happy when I found my current stylist. Even though she's in Jersey and I have to book appointments months in advance. Since I only go every 3 months or so, I might keep her even after we move. It took me forever to find someone who gets curly hair.

                    I get my hair cut at ... Fantastic Sam's ... with a coupon ... for $11.95.

It's not the best cut I've ever had (used to go to a fancy-schmancy salon and pay $50+ for a cut), but I end up throwing my hair up into a ponytail just about every day so no one can tell anyway.

Last May, when we were still in Chicago, I got a makeover from Redbook magazine. It included a fancy-schmancy haircut from a Vidal Sassoon stylist that looked wonderful.

After we moved here, I made the mistake of going to Supercuts to have it trimmed back into shape. The girl MULLETED me. That's right....she gave me a mullet. I looked like I was just waiting for a cooler full of beer and some Nascar on the TV. I absolutely cried. But what did I expect for $12?

I haven't had another haircut since then because I was so traumatized!!

I'm trying to find someone to cut my hair too. I found a great woman when we were in tn, but now that I'm back in nyc I'm lost for someone. I need really skilled hands for my super thick straight hair. After we first moved back I did the free bumble and bumble razor bob, which is okay, but I've had better cuts. I'm almost considering going back there as I can't seem to find anything that's less than $100 for a good cut. ugh. why does hair have to grow??

Before I found my stylist, I used to go to Bumble&Bumble too. But those $100 + tip haircuts were pricey and we only had one income back then. Right now I pay $90 and that includes highlights and a cut and since I go to her house, I bring free alcohol from work instead of a tip.

I went to Aveda school for color once and not only did they completely burn my hair but they also made me bright orange.

I went to an Aveda salon last time and it was $220 for cut and partial highlights. The color was great, the cut was just OK. In a couple weeks I'm going to the Arden Red Door salon for a facial and a cut. The cut is going to be $57. I'm still debating where to go for my next color. I guess I've just come to expect high prices for good service when it comes to my hair. I'm picky...

This has been my trauma since we moved. I loved my stylist in Phoenix and still get updates on how she is doing because my dearest friend now sees her too, and loves her. Anyways...after a year and a half paying $100-165 on cut and colors that made me want to cry at various and sundry big-name and shee-shee places, I decided to go to the aveda school (I don't like their products much...I'm a Bumble and Bumble girl, but it was what was available) Cut, color (I get three in foils) and brow wax (reshaping really...) under $100 and it is the only one that hasn't made me want to cry. She didn't fight me when I told her how I wanted my hair, she was helpful and checked in with me every step of the way. It wasn't exactly right, but I pulled back on description because I didn't want some crazy interpretation...so I got what I asked for.

A great hair cut is fantastic and a horrible on is traumatizing. Happy Hair!
