I saw your ticker in another thread before I got to this one and thought, "What the hell???"
Your husband (along with the rest of our soldiers) is doing an amazing thing. Much gratitude and love for his service to our country.
I'll be praying that he returns home to you and Nikolai safely, and that you and the little guy get through the next 14 months ( ) as best you can. I'll be thinking about all of you, please let us know if we can do anything to help you through.

I not sure what to say except...thank you. I can't imagine giving up my spouse for an extended period of time for our countrymen's health. I deeply respect your strengths.

Since we've been together, he's been in training. (Med school, residency, fellowship) We knew that as soon as he was done with training he'd probably get picked.
When he was enlisted, he was deployed to Panama and to Haiti. That was back when he DID have a gun strapped to his back and he jumped out of planes to get there. He was also called up for the first gulf war but didn't go because the regular Army didn't realize that he was in the Guard so because the Guard unit didn't deploy, he didn't have to go.
Ironically, my first husband has also been deployed to Iraq. He's in the Air Force Air National Guard and he was called up in 2003. I'm sure he's gone more than once by this point. (I only know he was deployed because the AF had to verify his information and I was part of the information they needed to verify.)
Seriously though, every single Army doctor we know, with the notable exception of one who has managed to get pregnant every time she's tasked to go, has been to Iraq. The other exception was our friend who was sent to Ft. Polk and then every other pediatrician was sent to Iraq so he ended up essentially being the only pediatrician for the entire post. (bascially on-call 24/7 with no leave granted).
It's our turn, it's a part of the deal. My grandmother reminded me that she and my mom got through it- my grandfather was deployed before my mom was born and got back from the Pacific shortly after her 3rd birthday.
Jenn, we're all here for you 24/7 while he's gone.
You're a very strong person to have that attitude about it.
I have a friend who's fiance is supposed to be back in 30 days, we're hoping last nights announcement doesn't prolong that - they're supposed to get married in April.
