  • Fitness Equipment

So, we need to get something for when Rick is deployed and I'm unable to get to the gym. I'd like an elliptical machine, although I did have a Nordictrak machine once and loved it. (lost it in the divorce). Does anyone have any recommendations for any indoor cardio equipment- either that you love or hate?

We'd like to get it through AAFES (the exchange aka the PX) so that limits our brands. All reviews are welcomed, though.

I was on a strict budget when I got my elliptical, but I hear it's not a good idea to skimp on such a purchase if you're a serious exerciser. I can't even remember what brand I got and I haven't used it enough to form a good idea of its quality so I won't recommend it. It works well enough for my needs, but then again, I'm a lazy bum most of the time when it comes to exercising.

Consumer reports currently rates the Precor EFX 5.19 the highest but its pricetag is ridiculously high in my opinion. Their best buy is a Schwinn 418. Let us know what you decide to get. :walk:

Although I've never been a serious indoor exercise type, I'd like to second thought that buying cheap does not pay. We bought a treadmill in the 500-800 range and it didn't hold up to even mild use. I did have a Tunturi (?) exercise bike in college that held up very well. I put thousands of miles on it. I was thin then. Good luck.

We have a NordicTrack treadmill that has many, many miles on it and is still going strong.

We have a Life Fitness eliptical and a bike with a high back.

DH is very tall and this brand allowed him to get a full workout for both of us.

I know you might not be able to get this brand but it is known as a "good" brand so perhaps you could look for some of the same features.

          Just a thought.

Good idea while DH is away...

I couldn't agree more. If you are going to buy any piece of equipment, go at least "Light Commercial Grade". The rest are just junk.
