I saw a painting a few years back and I just thought of it again last night but can't remember the name. I believe it is a French painter. Unfortunately, the only elements that I remember are fireworks, possibly a boat on the water. . .ring any bells for anyone?

DH and I had this issue with a painting a few years ago - we just found some online art sites and browsed through their stuff until we found it, took some time but it now hangs above our couch.

    Good luck!

Do you remember what style it was painted in? Or the dominant colors?

I remember the bottom half was water with the reflection of the fireworks and I *think* there was a boat with people in the water.

I hope I'm not way off on this. I saw this pre-mommy brain.

          Impressionism, BTW.

Monet painted a lot of boats on the water. Try going through some websites that sell his reproductions.
