Horticulture experts?

I don't have a green thumb. I really don't know much about plants at all. What would be a good plant to have indoors (not much light in the window here - maybe a couple of hours max)? I would prefer one that is uhm, edible in case the baby got curious. I would also prefer one that could be watered extensively and still live! (We had a violet for a few weeks and my daughter would ask if it was time to water it again. Every 3 hours!)

I have a traveler's palm. It would be hard to eat the leaves, but I think they are edible. It can take lots of water too.

My brother is a horticulturist, i'll get him to email me a list and post it here for you.

My brother eventually got back to me and said these plants are lovely house plants that are non poisonious if the baby decides to tastes:

Draceana Marginata
Spathiphylla,
Bromeliad,
Arboracola,
Hedera Helix,
Scheffleractinophy lla,
Aglaonema,
Maranta.

He always gives me the latin names and I have to google them to se what they look like and get a more 'english' name that I can pronounce!
