This might sound like an odd question, but do you have any experience with online learning? I'm at home with my three children but have the opportunity to teach for a community college online....would that look bad when I emerge from my motherhood cacoon and look for a job outside of the virtual world?

I think it is becoming the norm. When your kids are all in school and you are back in the "real world" it will be strange if you don't have online teaching experience.

I don't have much knowledge about this, but it couldn't hurt you to become familiar with it. I do know that my knowledge of webpage design and my use of technology in the classroom was helpful to me in finding my job. A lot of the older faculty are reluctant to learn this new "language" and like to have a young "techie" in the department to help out when needed. I would say give it a try, perhaps on a one-course basis and then if you like it, add more?

Thanks you two...I actually took two distance learning courses during grad school and the dean of my dept. approved them...but I know that there are some professors that really frown on that kind of a think. I think many still see distance learning as the "easy way out"...though I found the courses as challenging as my on campus courses...if not more since I really had to work to maintain my motivation!!
