We did our taxes ourselves using the program on hrblock.com and found that we owe $2! We have always done our taxes ourselves (nothing from nothing = nothing) but perhaps we should pay an accountant to ensure that this is correct. Until now, we had been getting huge returns even without the purchase of our house this year. Would you all recommend seeing an accountant. I would hate for them to say, yup, you owe $2 to the Government and $100 to us. Advice?

    Kelly-

I have used TurboTax for the last few years (the nothing from nothing theory of being a poor social worker!) But this year it's end result is that we owe. and that we owe a lot. So, my question is how can two people with two mortgages and a bajillion dollars in tax-deductible donations (remember the Arthritis Foundation marathon- hello MasterCard??) owe anything? So, I'm thinking about taking all of the information to a tax preparer. Luckily there are free ones on the Army base. In an nutshell, I'm going to see what the difference is.

      Kelly-

call h&r block and tell them the situation-- that is shows that you owe $2. See what they offer-- My thought is better to know that that's all you owe than have the government come back later and say "Oh by the way you owe this PLUS interest...."

We have the same dilemna right now...it looks like we might get $200 back.....but it depends on which end of the scale that we look at and we could potentially get more back...we're trying to decide whether or not to have someone prepare it and see if we can get more back or just be thankful for the $200!!! Hmmmmmmmm

Man, Kelly, you owe $2? What a bummer!!! I think we all deserve big tax cuts this year
