Your nutrition article is AWESOME...My husband has put on 35 pounds since he started medical school and residency because...he doesn't have time to eat and then he gorges himself at the end of the day. (O.K. part of the weight gain was due to my pregnancy...I gained 30 pounds and he gained 20!) Seriously, I think that you have tapped into a widespread problem. Great article!

I thought it was a very informative article as well! I've actually been successful at keeping (most of) the residency pounds off my husband by consciously cooking extremely low-fat meals - and the good thing is that he hasn't noticed yet!

Kelly - does Sean eat breakfast or lunch? I know that my husband usually gets to eat breakfast but some months lunch is out of the question - so while I was reading the article, I was thinking what can we do? Stuff this in his pocket?

Yes, lunch is often out of the question and the amount of fasting between a 5 a.m. diet coke and cereal bar to an 8 p.m. dinner rivals Ramadan. He is losing weight because he didn't have time to eat this month, but I'm not sure how healthy that is either.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the article. Can you stuff your spouse's pockets? You betcha! I try to stock up on granola bars and Nutri-Grain bars during those rotations where I know he will absolutely not have time to eat. If he has enough time to run to the bathroom, make a phone call, or call me on the phone, he can eat a bar and at least get some nutrition in him.

My husband has another PT test coming up so he's all gung-ho back at the gym.

He also packs a HUGE lunch- several peices of fruit, that new chex mix cereal stuff (he loes it), at least one sandwich, and whatever leftovers he can scrounge. That way, he stocks the fridge at work and always has an option other than the cafeteria. He restocks with leftovers as needed through the week. He also likes those Slim-Fast caramel chocolate bars which I buy so that he can satisfy his enormous sweet tooth and not ingest 350 calories doing it. I think the key for us is 1) buying tons of fresh fruits and veggies to take to work, 2) I also cook low-fat meals and always make enough for both of us to take for lunch, and 3) we restrict our eating out to once a week for lunch. (my office goes out every Friday) and once w week togehter for dinner. He also eats breakfast, and hates sodas. and of course, he wants to beat his buddy in the PT test this times around (although the fact that the guy in question will have a newborn and will therefore be sleep deprived has him rubbing his hands with glee.

          Go Army!

I found a neat site: http://www.deliciousdecisions.org - there are many, many recipes that have the AHA stamp of approval.

Also tips on how to shop at the grocery store!

I bought cereal bars yesterday. The box was unopened this morning. We'll see about this! I might have to actually wake up at 5am with him and force feed him
