  • Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Hope you had a very GREEN day!

I discovered about eight years ago that I am part Irish. My grandmother still refuses to believe it thanks to her very proper Scottish family but ... I thought it was pretty cool when I started working on my grandmother's genealogy and found two lines that go into Ireland! When I told the genealogy worker that I had no idea I had any Irish she seemed totally surprised. She said it was obvious from looking at me that I had Irish in me somewhere! I don't know how true that is. BUT... it does make St. Patrick's Day a little more interesting for me!

    Robin -

How did you go about this? I have always been curious but it seems like such a daunting task! My mother is quite certain that her great grandmother in France was a princess - that would be rather cool! Did it take a long time?

Hope you had a great St. Patty's Day!

I actually went in to Curves on Monday morning and wished everyone a Happy St. Paddy's Day...ooops! It is definately time to buy a calendar.

Hey..did you guys realize that Easter is March 31 this year? If my mom hadn't mentioned it, I think I would have missed this entirely....definately time for the calendar!

I didn't realize that Easter is so soon! No wonder my kids are having egg hunts this Friday before spring break. I probably would have missed it too.

As far as learning about my geneology. I still have a long ways to go on my mother's side but my aunt is really into it now and the internet helps a ton. Now you can look up census records on the internet and search for families. I happened to have a great grandfather who kept good records of his 17 children and his own brothers. That's where I started and then looked at census records for the area. It can be very daunting but it is really cool when you find out things. A princess from France would be WAY cool! My grandmother was not happy when I found a criminal records book that happened to have her uncle in it for shoplifting when he was 12 years old! Ha! I thought it was funny. She didn't think so. My great grandmother grew up in a tiny little town outside of Glasgow. She was the youngest of 23 children!!! I figured somebody had to still be there so I wrote a letter to this little town addressed "To the descendants of John Bolton and Mary Patterson. Would you believe I received a letter back from a first cousin of my grandmother's that she never knew. They wrote for 10 years until this unknown relative past away in November. We learned a lot from her and my grandmother was in heaven finding a lost cousin. I love puzzles and to me, geneology is a big puzzle with a lot of pieces missing. I haven't done any research though for eight or so years now because of all the other stuff I have to do. I thought it was fun. I am stil looking for the princess or royalty in my family. So far, we have lots of fisherman in England!
