  • Yippee!!!!

My dh has the entire weekend off! <gasp> It has been at least 5 or 6 months since this has happened. I don't even know what to do! The first thought that ran through my mind is chores: sealing the garage floor, staining the deck.

We are going to an upscale wedding reception Saturday with our son. The couple insisted that we bring him to this fancy-schmancy place instead of arranging a playdate for him. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly.

Anyway, I just don't know what to do with having a hubby all weekend long! Yippee!

That's great, Kelly! One thing (of many) I hated about residency is that during breaks/vacations, I would get to know my husband all over again, only to have him snatched back into the residency machine. I would miss him so much and have to get used to him being gone all over again. I know you guys just had a great trip together, so I am glad his re-entry into the madness will be a little slower than you had expected. Enjoy the weekend and the wedding reception -- look at it this way -- either your son will do fine and it will go well, OR you will have a great story to tell us on Sunday!

      Kelly-

that's great! We were supposed to have the weekend -but as always, Life intervenes. One of the other resident's wife had a baby and had serious complications, so my husband is taking his call. But the good part is that in exchange for covering this Saturday, the Chief Resident has arranged for him to have 2 fewer calls this next rotation. So, maybe, someday, we can have an actual ENTIRE weekend together.

But I guess the bigger point is that this other resident will be able to be with his wife, their newborn and their 2 year-old.

PS- have fun at the wedding!

So---how were your weekends? Mine was AWESOME but it went by too fast and not a single chore was completed. Ugh. If we had the money, I would just hire these chores out.

The wedding was very beautiful and Cade was perfect. I dressed him up in a darling little sailor outfit and he behaved like an angel, much to my surprise and relief! . When the wedding cake was brought out, he started singing "happy birthday to you" really loud! Luckily, the bride also found this amusing.

I absolutely loved having my dh home the entire weekend. We were a normal family for once!

Here's hoping that all of your weekends went well.

            Hi Kelly,

Glad Cade behaved at the wedding! (But I was looking forward to a story.....it makes me feel better about my own kids' misdeeds!)

We had a full weekend -- fairly pleasant, too. There was a carnival at my oldest son's school Friday night, so we went to that. My husband took the baby home early, so I brought him some cotton candy for his trouble.

The last two soccer games of the season were at 8 and 1 on Saturday. I didn't make it to the 8 o'clock game, but my husband did, and also took Luke out to breakfast beforehand. We all went to the second game and I got really sunburned on my arms. I should have known better, because I have had the same complexion for 33 years, but the sun down here is so much more intense that it still fools me. It wasn't really that warm.

We went to the Olive Garden after church yesterday (that is fine dining here in Wichita Falls) and the kids "weren't too bad", as my husband put it. We went and played at a local park yesterday evening, and that was about it. Uneventful, but fun.

              Sally--

I'm glad that you guys spent some quality time together. There is nothing better than a spring festival. I love the spring/summer months because entertainment is so much more fun (and cheaper).

Lest I give you the wrong impression about my "little angel", I should clarify. While he definitely is my little piece of heaven on Earth, he engages in most of the common 2 year old attributes: throwing, hitting, biting, throwing temper tantrums, showing no interest whatsoever in the potty but more than willing to shout "pooping", and running away in public forums. Please don't be mislead by my bias about my son!! I guess that his loving, joyful little self somehow obscures his "dark side"!
