BTW, could you explain what Chai tea is? I am prohibited from drinking tea (religious reasons) so you'll have to forgive my ignorance!

        You and me both, Christy!

Jennifer, Chai tea is, as i understand it (someone help me here if I'm off base!) black tea made into a concentrate with honey and diff. spices (there are several diff. flavors). This concentrate is then added to hot milk....and is very, very tasty!

I would have never tried it if it weren't for Thomas....he forced me the first time around and now I'm hooked. They sell these at coffee shops and also in containers at the supermarket so that you can make it yourself.

I like it over ice. Starbucks makes a great iced chai tea.

Actually- my yoga instructor sells an all herbal version of chai- cinnamon and cardmon and ginger and a bunch of other stuff that I boil for about 20 mintues and then leave on the stove on low for a few hours until it gets syrupy- then add milk and there you have it. I like it because you can control the level of sweetness- I prefer less sweet than most commercial brands, and it's MUCH less expensive than buying the mixes.

Jennifer- you can drink herbal teas, right? (I grew up across the street from an LDS church and we had a ton of families in the neighborhood as a result) (Of course we also had an orthodox Jewish synagogue and a catholic church nearby- so we had a majority of families with at least three kids- we had some excellent stick ball games, that's for sure!)

We can drink herbal teas I believe - as long as there is no caffeine in it. But, that's kind of a grey area so I avoid drinking tea period. My mil (also LDS) drinks herbal tea (to help keep her "regular" supposedly) so the herbal tea thing is open for debate I'd say. "Regular" tea, however, is a HUGE no-no (just like coffee).

If you like Starbucks Chai, you'll love the Chai at Borders!! It's much yummier!! Well, at least to me after comparing all the Chai's I could...... everyone always forgets about the little cafe inside of Borders....

hmmmmmmmm We only have Barnes and Nobles near us...and they only have the 'writer's chai'...which is way to sweet for me...I do go to Caribou sometimes...but for the most part, I buy the pre-mixed/pre-made stuff...and then instead of just pouring it into a cup and heating it, I dilute it further...It is $4 for a liter carton here, and lasts me actually about 2 weeks if I'm careful.

I'm really interested in this recipe, Jenn.......would you consider posting it or emailing it to me? It sounds great!

i used to live in India and drink it all the time there. Chai is the Hindi word for tea. The kind here is really good, but totally different.

I not only drink it, but I make it pretty much every day when we go to visit his parents. Aashish is East Indian......his parents came to the USA in their early 20's. They still practice "tea time", in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I confess, I still have to look at the recipe to make it correctly. Since we almost never drink it at home. But his Mom doesn't need to know that, lol.

I will find the recipe this weekend and make sure to post it for you. We recently moved, so I have some boxes that I have not gotten around to unpacking yet. I believe it is probably in one of those, lol. I need to find it anyway...we are going to visit his parents soon and I know they will want me to make tea, .

I'll get the recipe from Amrit, my yoga instructor, too. That way we can compare the recipes and see if they are at all similar. Kris- the calories depends entirely on what you mix it with and what sweetener you use. I like maple syrup and 1% soy milk. Amrit uses whole milk and stevia to sweeten it. Hers is better but mine has fewer calories. In any case it's addicting. I have it every night before I go to bed. If I have time I have it before going to work, but it's soooo good that I find that I linger over the paper to finish the tea!
