How important is Mother's Day to you moms out there? I'm curious.

My mom doesn't believe in these completely commercial, Hallmark holidays. Or so I thought... I sent her a card and a bookmark that we picked up in the Smokies. They arrived today and my mom called to thank me. She seemed genuinely happy and even said "perfect timing!" So I know she appreciates the thought of dh and me honoring her on Mother's Day, but... it all sort of seems contrived. I prefer birthdays and anniversaries to this...

    Ok, throw tomatoes now!

In truth I wish it didn't matter to me, b/c I usually avoid the hoopla about the Hallmark holidays. We don't do Valentines or Sweetest Day or stuff like that. But in all honesty Mothers Day does matter to me.

Until you've been one, you have no idea what it does to you / requires from you / means / gives you. It's nice to have a day intended FOR you.

right now, i dont feel as if i deserve mothers day. dh is post call, not home yet, and i doubt he will even remember.

it will mostly likely be like any other day.

annie, im so excited for you! what a great day for you and the family! can you post pictures of isabelle in her dress and the yummy cake?

i hope everyone has a great day!

I have to admit, although I lumped it with Hallmark holidays, I'm a little sad that it's really turning out to be nothing. All I wanted was someone else to make me breakfast and time to take a real shower but DH is sleeping in, I've been sitting hungry in my grunge for two hours, and I think I'm going to suck it up and have some cereal and shower while popping my head out of the curtain to entertain the boy. Ah, glamour.

In the last few years I've made a point on Mother's Day to thank my mom sincerely for raising me and my brother so well. Sometimes I find a good gift and sometimes not.

We had breakfast (cereal, banana and OJ) outside until it got too hot and then I'm going to buy myself two new pairs of athletic shoes.

We have friends coming over to swim in the pool and grill out so that'll be fun.

I got a card with his handprints and another of his picture that they made at daycare. Too cute.

We gave both of our mothers cards and toook them out to dinner last night.

Today, DH gave me two cards (one from him, one from DS) and a bouquet of flowers. Then, I got my own breakfast and cleaned up after feeding everyone else breakfast, and then went about my usual morning routine. Pretty much a normal day here.

I agree. I like it to be a time I can be with just my family and be a little lazy and loungey for the day.

You are a good woman - I have had both moms stay with us at the same time. In a one-bedroom apartment. My mom and I in one bed and dh and his mom in another bed. I so want to avoid this in the near (or far) future.

Did he hear you? He finally woke up while I was putting laundry away. He offered to make breakfast, and decided on cereal so he could get out on his bike before it gets too hot. But I'm not complaining, I told myself all I wanted was someone else to make my breakfast for once and it happened. And he's going to watch the boy later so I can go to the gym. And we're still having bugs and her husband over, fresh off the plane!

Speaking of which I'm off to clean the icky bathrooms!

I was hoping to play with my new sewing machine (mother's day present! ) but it looks like Russ has a few hours left at the hospital. I was also hoping for breakfast but he let me sleep in and he was walking out the door as I woke up so that was nice too (the sleeping in part).

Daegan has been in a really good mood today so that's made everything great!!

I video-called both moms and that made them happy.

I'm just really hoping that we can go out for ice cream later!!!

                            wow, my dh remembered.

he brought me a beautiful vase full of purple iris's (i think)

he was late this morning coming home....because someone STOLE the first bouquet of flowers he bought me. he put them in a room that is hardly used and turned the AC on low to keep them fresh. some schmuck stole them. jerks.

the replacement vase and flowers are beautiful, tho.
