  • How should we go about looking for job opps?

    Hey there!

I have been wondering about this for awhile. I wondered if you all who have gone through the process or know of experiences could tell me about how you sought out job opportunites. Did you go through a recruiter's office or by word-of-mouth? I would love some advice!

    Christy-

We've covered this a lot in the education and career section. Since we're all in different fields, we've used different methods of locating new jobs.

Are you all looking for positions post-training? Thomas tried several different approaches, including using a recruiter, but he found that the jobs that registered with recruiters were often "problem" positions...they were having difficulty recruiting and had to pay someone....His advice is to look through the job listings in appropriate journals and online...I'll ask him for the sites that he used....

Hey Jenn! I'll check out that section of the boards as well!! Thanks for the direction!!

Kristen, yes, Bob is starting to look for his job in Family Medicine and has talked to a few recruiters. I'll have to tell about Thomas' experiences. Thanks so much. He's working on his CV this weekend.

          Christy-

We're kind of in the same boat. Ron hasn't updated his CV yet or really started an official job search. We keep talking about places we want to look for jobs. I am the one who does all the searching online at appropriate websites and some recruiting sites mostly because I am curious and have more time on my hands. Since Kris told me about some jobs through recruiters maybe being problems I am much more leary about using one.

Ron actually got this magazine/journal in the mail called Unique Opportunities which was dedicated to some issues of job hunting including negotiating. I found it very interesting. They have a website called http://www.uoworks.com. One of the more interesting articles detailed the ebb and flow of specialities and how that affected salaries.

Of course Ron hasn't even looked at the magazine yet. I told him I couldn't find him a job, although it is a little early for him to be completely commited to it, I am the one wondering where we will end up.

It is kind of exciting ,yet scary.
