  • Question for the New Yorkers

What is the best (cheapest but least fuss) way to get from JFK to the Brooklyn Bridge area, and then from the BB area to Newark? With kids and luggage too?

I agree. With kids and luggage I don't know of any other way I'd attempt.

From the bridge to EWR, I'd take a cab to penn station and then NJ transit - though it's another hop on a monorail to the terminal. But a cab ride to nj will be $$$.

From JFK to Brooklyn, take car service, they're cheaper than yellow cabs and nicer too. I usually call Carmel (http://www.carmellimo.com), their prices are listed on the web. From Brooklyn to EWR you can either do the same thing or take the car service to Wall St and then hop on a shuttle bus to EWR. I'll double check how much the bus is and if it's worth transfering to it.

I agree with the car service recommendation 100%. But warning: I've travelled in and out of LGA, JFK and Newark a zillion times, but the car service is rarely on time--so don't sweat it if the driver isn't at the airport when you walk off the plane. (I think they pretty much figure that since nothing seems to land in NYC airports on time, why bother?).

Anyhow, he's probably on the way. Take the car service telephone number with you--along with any confirmation information they gave you when making the reservation--and call them. Sounding ticked off but not touristy will be most productive.

But I definitely would not attempt any mass public transportation option--not with kids and luggage in tow. Another serious consideration: when do you arrive? If it is after dark, really forget mass transport. Too much of a hassle in a city you don't know.

Yes, on second thought, just stick to car service. Good luck and have fun on your trip.
