woohoo...Happy new year to you! I'm glad that the move went so smoothly and that you are settling in so well!! Have you been able to kind of find your way around town yet? I know that the first couple of months in a new place, things feel so foreign to me...I kind of have the feeling that I'm going ot move back to the place that I just came from and am on vacation.

We've been here a year and it recently occurred to me that I finally feel at home here. Have you met any friends? Is there an auxiliary support group?

I'm finding my way around. We have 2 Seattle maps in our car, and I make sure I have directions to my destination before walking out the door.

We went to a "new resident" bbq yesterday. I met a couple of other spouses, and one of them has a similar situation as to Matt and I.

Well I have to go catch my rolling daughter- Emma has figured out how to roll from back to tummy. I'm waiting for her to put the two rolls together and figure out "ooo I'm mobile"

Congrats- glad the move went well. When my husband did a rotation at Madigan (Ft. Lewis) during med school I flew out to visit him. We went to a really neat arts festival (it was Labor Day weekend) down by the space needle and then toured around the city. He stayed with family who have a home on Gig Harbor- wow, is that place gorgeous! (and it didn't rain once while I was there!)

I'm feeling a sense of relief that he's finally reached third year. It's so odd to think about- next year at this time, we will either be moving or not, I will either be working or will have resigned- it's so wierd. I can't believe the time has gone so quickly. (of course it certainly didn't seem like it at the time!)

Well I guess I am presumptious to say we are loving it. So far we are extremely happy with the program. The chiefs at UW seem extremely nice. They do the schedule a month in advance, and try to fulfill the residents' request as best as possible.

Matt doesn't do overnight call for 2 months. For the next two weeks he doesn't have any type of call, and then he will start doing short call which means he will be at the hospital until 6 or 7 pm, rather than 4 pm.

We found out Matt gets $1000 educational stipend, which means the Miller's Anesthesia he has been drooling over for the past century (it seems that long), the program will pay for it! The book is about $300. You know your spouse is obsessed with their field when.... (that would be a good topic).

Anyway, we moved from Denver to Seattle without any problems. Emma did awesome! We are about 95% unpacked. We love our new apartment even though we didn't have a chance to view beforehand.

Crystal, I am so glad that the move went well and that you are loving life in Seattle. The program sounds great and hopefully you will get to see your husband a lot! One can always hope!

It is amazing how fast the time goes. Have fun learning the city and making new friends!

So far it hasn't been to bad. Matt is done by 4 pm, and home by 5 pm, he takes the bus, so it takes a 1/2 hour to get home instead of 15 min. There has been only one day when he got done at 530 pm, and it was because these OBs were being retarded. Matt said he could have done the surgery quicker than they did. What should have been a 60 min fibroid removal turned into a 3 hour surgery, they did 3 different surgery techniques on this lady- Matt was saying once they saw that the fibroid was 7 mm, they should hav realized that they needed to open her up, but nooo they thought oo let's do a lap, the largest tube is 4mm hmm. Anyway my rant for the day.

He had the 4th of July off, and will have the weekends off for the first two months. We are going to go exploring this weekend- we are thinking about taking a ferry to one of the islands and finding a B&B. We'll see.

It is so much fun being in a new place.

                Crystal---

Welcome back!!! It sounds like you are doing just fine! Wow, you guys are light years ahead of where I was in your position! I'm hoping that the two months of no call is a good luck sign of a healthy residency program. Please keep us posted.

                  Crystal,

Wow...it sounds like he has a really great schedule!!! I'm glad that this move has worked out so well for you guys. How is the weather there right now? We have friends that recently moved to Seattle that say it is absolutely gorgeous, but rainy....

So far the weather has been gorgeous! It is not as bad as people make it out to be. In fact, the summer has been so nice I am thinking it would not be a bad time of year to have a baby.

When it rains it definitely pours though. In CO, it would rain for 15 min, and then stop. Here it can rain for an entire day, pretty amazing to me.

I think in the month we have been here it has rained 2 or 3 times. The rest of the time it has been sunny, almost reminds me of Colorado.
