12-18 dictations every night

My spouse puts in about 10 hours, comes home, eats,

and spends two or three hours doing dictations.



Isn't there a better way to do these things?

I wish! I would love to hear about them! Two of our precious off-Q3 nights last week were spent doing dictations!

there was just a discussion on one of my nurse practitioner listservs about doing the dictation in the room in front of the patient. the purpose was supposedly so that the patient could hear what was being dictated which would improve their knowledge, patient-provider communcation and decrease litigation. i thought it sounded interesting but to me seemed a little unprofessional- like the ulterior motive was to get it done quicker. i think there was a recent research study on it.... anyways just a thought

The FP I do medical transcription for does most of his dictations in the room with the patient. It doesn't sound unprofessional on tape but it would have to be done the right way. This FP throws in a lot of humor while restating the plan the patients are to follow. The patients get to here the instructions twice.



That said ... my hubby spent most of Sunday afternoon dictating at the hospital. Ugh ...

Wow..I consider myself lucky. We've never really had this issue at all....



What a bummer to have them work all of the time and then come home and do dictations? If it means missing out on family time, I think I'm all for the dictating right at the end of the pt. visit....I suppose the doc could always wait until the patient left the room before they dictate if they feel uncomfortable? or go into another room to quickly dictate before moving on?
