  • "Cosmetic Gynecology"

Yes, I just spent 3 hours at work trying to figure out how many people undergo cosmetic procedures on their private areas. This is not a surgery for pregnancy complications or congenital problems or anything like that, this is for people who don't like the way their skin or veins look on the outside of their areas and want to pay a cosmetic surgeon to fix it.

Maybe I'm crazy but who pays thousands of dollars for surgery on this area? And how do you ask for time off of work for that? And what if, god forbid, something happened to you? Can't you just see that in an obituary? "Jane died because she had surgery to fix her veiny crotch".

I mean how many people actually SEE that area who CARE about the number of veins? Most people who are seeing that part of you don't actually care what it looks like right?

Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way, feel free to set me straight but I thought it might make you all laugh because we've been hysterical over it in my office.

OMG- that is so funny that you bring that up because I JUST saw a bill board advertsing "Cosmetic gynecology" and damn near drove off the road.

I'm assuming this includes having all the parts "tightened" after gravity and childbirth do their thing?

oh- and the ad pictured two beautiful people with grey hair and it said something about "recapture those special moments..." or some sh*t like that.

I guess everyone's got something they want to change. As for me, I would put my money into a different area of the body.

Ok, I can see having your boobs tucked (or whatever they call it) after pregnancy and breast feeding, but the other parts? Get over it!

Of course ask me again in six months, I might change my mind!

Nope, that's the thing, it's not considered cosmetic if it's post-childbirth because that's an actual medical condition. This is if you just don't think it's pretty enough - it's just the outside and completely not related to health or function.

omg! the guy on 90210 kills me. he is making a fortune!!!

actually some women have problems with the labia minora being to large. it can cause painful rubbing, so they have it trimmed. that is about the only reason i see going to a doc like that.

oh and have you seen the G-shot stuff on 90210. i guess the chick goes in a room by herself...and *ahem* does things, the doc comes in and gives her shots in that area to make her O better.

Yeah, I saw a show on TV involving women in their 40s and 50s going in for...get this:

                  HYMEN RECONSTRUCTION.

Yep, they were paying tons of money to get a tiny flap of skin reconstructed--not for their personal pleasure but to "give their husbands THAT gift." Apparently, the gift of hymen ripping. Talk about a gift you use just once and can't return.

I clipped down a woman's labia minora as a med student (well, I think it was actually electrocautery). Big improvement, but I made one shorter than the other. Oops...

NOT the kind of procedure I want a med student doing on me......

I think this may have to do with attempting to preserve her appearance of virginity for marriage purposes...

Thank goodness my DH didn't ask for this!!
