  • Someone shoot me

Day 3 of going off coffee/caffiene. I feel so sick and I know it is part of the process. This stuff is genuinely physically addictive. Do you have ANY idea how tempting it is to get a nice steamy cup of coffee right now?

But if you quit smoking, just roll your eyes and ignore me. I realize on the spectrum this is small potatoes.

        Re: Someone shoot me

I'm so sorry! I went down to one Diet Coke per day while pregnant and it was a killer! Then for the first couple of months I stuck with 2-3 per day. I don't know how many I drink per day now, but it's more than before I was pregnant. Staying home and helping at the kids' school makes me more exhausted than when I was working.

I'm hoping to avoid a colicky baby from his withdrawl symtoms.

I definitely drink more coffee as a SAHM than I ever did when working.

            Janet-

            1) I quit smoking and still haven't given up caffeine

            2) As far as I've read, caffeine w/drawal in infants is minimal. I know that nicotine w/drawal is about three days, cocaine is about a week, heroin is about two weeks and methadone is about a month. So...drink up if you're utterly miserable. No need to stress your body unduly at the time.

            3) I am the Mistress of Justification.

I'm still breastfeeding an 8 month old. And have had caffeine daily since day 1. Hmm...maybe that's why he doesn't sleep through the night yet.

You will feel better once you quit. If you feel the need to have the smell and the routine of it, get some decaf. Or have just 1/2 a cup of regular to satisfy the need.

Dr. Northrup was on Oprah talking about how that 1 mug of coffee in the morning really messes with your body, affecting your hormones and sleep at night. As much as I love a great cup o Joe, I felt significantly better when I cut back. I still drink the ocassional small coffee/capacino, green tea and black tea but not the 2 cups of coffee in the morning and then 1 in the afternoon to pick me up again.

                  Why again?

I never thought about that with TenE though I only have one shot of espresso in the am. She probably would have really been mad if I quit altogether!

How about you wean yourself from it and go make a cup of green tea. Goodness, woman, what are you doing to yourself?

Hey - when Nikolai gets the pooping in the potty thing down, we need to change your subtitle to "Mistress of Justification".

                          Oh- yeah...

Rick got him to do it.

YUP- 8 months of freaking out about it and I'm gone for a week and the boys have the pooping thing handled.

If I weren't so thrilled about it, I'd be annoyed.

Oh, Janet. I never drank coffee until I became a SAHM and I had a really tough time giving it up with this pregnancy. Can you try making 1/2 decaf & 1/2 regular for a few days before going cold turkey? ITA with Kosmo....now that I've made it past the withdrawal stage, I feel so much better.

Crap I never even thought about that. I have been so pleased with myself sticking to one small cup each day. Dont know if I am ready to give up altogether yet :thud:
The decaf idea is good, for me I am sure it is mostly the smell/taste.
