Re: Great meteor shower at the end of the week

Cool thanks for posting! I'm stoked, because it seems we will have some of the best views!!

    Geminid Meteor Shower

The Geminids are expected to peak on December 13-14, 2006 (Wednesday night into Thursday morning). The crescent moon won’t rise until 1:47 a.m., making it a great year for watching this meteor shower! For many meteor shower enthusiasts, the Geminids rank as a favorite. It’s proven to be a consistent and prolific shower, often producing 50 or more meteors per hour. Observers in North America - and Arizona in particular - will have the best view of what may be the finest meteor display of the year. The Geminid meteors are named for the constellation Gemini the Twins, since the meteors seem to come out of that point in the sky. But you don’t need to recognize Gemini to see the meteor shower, as the meteors will streak all over the sky beginning around mid-evening. You don’t need any special equipment, either. Just find a dark sky, and enjoy the comfort of a reclining lawn chair and the warmth of a sleeping bag. To best see the meteors, simply look high overhead and in the eastern, southern, and northern sky. For more tips on watching the Geminids, see: http://www.weatherfriend.com/astronomy/ ... inids.html
