    Re: Target bag recycling

Hmmm...I might go to Ikea for that. Jenn, you want some? I thought I would love having Ikea here but I don't. It gives me a migraine. But I'd risk it for you, Jenn. And I'd even pay the shipping for stuffing them in a box and sending them to you. :>

I'm all over that Nellie! Why they won't sell them on their website is beyond me. I had images of going to the Pittsburgh Ikea when we go to Cleveland (Alaska Jen now lives in Warren, OH which is 1/2 way to Pittsburgh), but I've come to my senses as the whole damn trip is now scheduled up to my eyeballs.

I'll take 6 of them. Or maybe 10 - you be the judge based on the size. I like the rectangle stand up ones - I can't deal w/the jumbo blue bags.

They're about 1 Euro (about 1.50, with the weak dollar). Not much. They don't last forever and look like a simple, canvas tote bag. You're usually not a walking billboard; the bags don't splash logos and brand names across them. I'm going to have to try to find some for Jenn...

yeah...... after paying 1.50 per bag for a few weeks i'm sure that adds up. dose anyone know if they do this in the UK as well??

            Re: Target bag recycling

Since I do most of my grocery shopping at Trader Joes, I end up with the paper bags. I reuse them either for storing recycle items or I take them back to the store. I've been meaning to buy some permanent bags, it's really the best thing.
I wasn't even aware Target had a recycling program here in Cali, I will use it next time I have Target bags. Which reminds, I need to go there today!
I also reuse the fancy handle bags I get from retail shops. They are great for storing misc. items, taking trips and taking lunch to work. They are even better for moving!!

Plastic bags in general are a PIA, IMO. I use them for trash bags in our smaller trash cans, haven't bought trash bags in YEARS! Our grocery store offers paper so I get those 90% of the time. I also use the plastic ones to recycle newspapers and they make good doggie pick up bags. More then getting them and having them I hate storing them, I would use nice cloth bags if any of our stores sold them but they don't. Once I'm a SAHM I plan to make monthly trips to the TJ's in the cities so maybe I'll stop at one of the higher end grocery stores and get the nice cloth bags.

I didn't read all the responses....

I have cloth/canvas bags from Publix (grocery store) that hold a TON of groceries....and they are sturdy!! Even after washings... I keep one in my car at all times...and bring the whole lot when I'm going shopping....I even bring them to the mall! I get looks and comments all the time....but I just smile and tell people I'm "saving their Earth one plastic bag at a time."

Russ, however, seems to collect plastic bags....we usually use them for doggie duty/bathroom trash and I also use them to stuff around fragile stuff when packing it up.

I tried to find a pic online of the bags but can't...they are about the size and shape of a paper bag....they are NOT the thin "green bags" that are too wide.

                    Re: Target bag recycling

                    Those are cool.

I am officially the resusable bag goddess. The Target folks knock each other over to take their break when they see me coming. I've got 4 from TJ's (when I was in Cleveland), 3 from Costco (they're HUGE - $3.49 for 3), and 6 from Ikea (thank you Nellie). I use the Ikea ones most often. They're deeper than the TJ's bags and cute, too. I've got enough now that I can always know I've got some in the car.

I also took all of my Target bags to Hy-Vee and put them in their recycling bins. I hadn't gotten a store bag in over 3 weeks - until today - at Pet Smart. I ended up buying 2 bones that I hadn't planned on, and didn't have any bags in the store with me.

I've also started recycling our glass. We don't have curbside pickup for glass, and we've been collecting it for a couple months. Davita and I found the glass drop-off in the area - and now I've become a madwoman. I've emailed the neighbors and told them I'll be going every couple weeks, and that I'm happy to take their glass too. Better one minivan hauling recyclables for a neighborhood than a neighborhood's worth of minivans ....

I'm on your bandwagon, Jenn. I've always had them, but got out of the habit of using them when we moved to Texas. But, I'm back and in full force.

Walmart has the spinny thingy. The last time I went to Walmart (I try not to go, not that I really ever went, after a family member had an interesting incident there) they just placed my bag in the spinny bag holder and bagged my stuff. Got some weird looks, but she bagged my stuff into my bad.

I was at a farmers market today and saw a woman with one of those canvas multi-use bags from a local supermarket chain. I just started saying to myself that it was a great idea, when I saw her put produce already packed in plastic bags in to it. What was the point of buying that eco-safe bag?
