I think all of the large metro areas will fit that demographic. I think in DC it takes a LONG time to climb the government ladder and with ever changing appointees coming and going and majority status on the hill changing AND the fact that most people in DC have advanced degrees of one sort or another, it takes some time before people are ready to have kids. (The DC area has the most highly educated minority population in the country)

Of my DC based friends and family, only my brother got married before 30 and then they waited 9+ years before having my nephew.

I wouldn't call this front page news- but I guess nothing else is going on in the DC area???

ETA: That's why when I go to certian parts of DC or the close-in shopping malls, everyone assumes that I'm a nanny to my kids. They are surprised when my identity of "mom" is revealed.

That's pretty much the case with NY as well. Majority gets married in late 20s - early 30s and starts procreating around mid to late 30s. Although some ethnic groups have their own timelines.

Has anyone seen the movie Idiocracy? It takes this problems and blows it out of proportion. Stupid movie but it has some good points.
