My smoke alarms are going off. THere is nothing smoking or on fire in my house. I can't get them to quit. I've tried changing the batteries. HELP!!! I am going deaf, and my headache is growing!

Can you shut off your main circut breaker then remove the batteries? Aftyer you've done this and regain your sanity/focus, call and ask if someone from the fire dept can come& take a look.
BTW are your detectors the kind that sense gas/ radon too? If so open your windows and call the fire dept to have your house checked for leaking gasses!! -

Grab the kids and go for a drive. Keep trying to call the fire dept from your phone. I have no idea what is going on, but if you can't make it stop, might as well get out of there!Comment

I keep trying to call the fire department. No one will answer the phone. I've called fire departments for two neighboring cities. NOTHING!!!!

Holy crap. I wasd going to suggest turning off the power to the whole house. You still need the fire Dept. to make sure there is no smoldering fire in the walls, etc.Luanne

So, it's old smoke detectors that need to be replaced. The firemen said that they had never seen this happen in 15+ years. Of course, of course it would happen to me with my husband, ya know, absent as usual.Heidi, PA-S1 - wife to an orthopaedic surgeon, mom to Ryan, 17, and Alexia, 11.

What a total PITA! We had a spider in one that kept setting it off (in the middle of the night). We couldn't get the spider out so my mom took the battery out and stuffed a clove of garlic in there. Next day, battery back in and no more spider!Comment

Hey, at least the fireman were nice and cute. I told Ryan I organized it just for his birthday.
He's 10 today!! We're celebrating tomorrow and next weekend when dad might actually show up for a slice of cake.
