Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

Slacks, shirt, tie, white coat. If he goes to the OR, he changes into Scrubs there. Ophthalmologists use their feet when they operate (to work the pedals on the machines), so if he's operating, he's in sock feet.

His Department Chair thinks that if you don't want to wear the white coat, you shouldn't be a doctor. So, all the attendings wear the white coat lest they get caught by said chair. I think he actually likes wearing it. It has lots of pockets for all his stuff.

Oh yeah, DH always wears the white coat. And carries two stethoscopes (one reg size and one for infants).

I don't think he ever wears them. I remember distinct decisions about the need for him to wear a tie when Luanne's daughter got married.

He just hates ties and embraced the New England Journal's position when they decided ties were bad. He wore a tie to Amy's wedding, but as soon as we got to the reception it was gone.

Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

On messy rotations: scrubs and some gym shoes that he leaves at work

On cleaner rotations: khakis or dress slacks and a button-down shirt in a muted color (purple, green, blue, beige), no tie

So sometimes we're making weekly trips to the dry cleaner's and other times we won't go there for a couple of months.

They're supposed to (and do) wear their white coats whenever they leave the department to go wandering about the hospital (going to lunch, going to check the fridge in L&D, etc.).

At his hospital the attendings' coats are light gray--which as a patient I have to say I don't like. I prefer that reassuring crisp white! The gray unsettles me.

Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

My husband, I could kill this man, wears THREE outfits every day.

In spite of all the :fight: loving discussions we have had about it and the amount of laundry it creates for me, it still happens.

Outfit #1: "The conference outfit" The ortho residents here are required to wear slacks, shirt, and tie for conferences, clinic, journal club, and everywhere else when they are on duty and not in the OR.

Outfit#2: "OR and VA chic" This is the scrubs outfit with clogs and a different pair of socks, with an undershirt.

Outfit #3 "The home outfit aka I don't want to be a doctor anymore today" This is usually jeans and a polo shirt and another undershirt (you know, nipple chafing). This outfit is used for going out anywhere in public or just for being at home, because heaven forbid anyone see him out in his scrubs.

                I literally could kill him.

No stethoscopes. Orthopods don't really use those. White coat is worn in the ER over scrubs and in clinics over shirt and tie. He has gone to the ER in shirt and tie too. Can you write these things off on your taxes if you have to throw away several pairs of socks and a few shirts, ties, and pants that come home with patient blood on them. Can I write that off?

                Where's Mathilde?

Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

I have no idea... I know what he wears TO the hospital but I have no clue what he changes into once there. I would imagine he changes into scrubs on OR days, but other than that I am sure he wears his white coat. Presumably stethoscope too since he is vascular. I know he wears clogs.

To the hospital he wears khakis, button down shirt, and sweater. In the summer, no sweater. He never wears a tie. He wears suits to conferences.

DH wears slacks, a sportcoat and tie, or a suit everyday.

Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

DH hates scrubs. He tolerated them during residency. He wears dress slacks, button down shirts (pref. with french cuffs) and a bow tie (the kind you tie yourself). He sometimes wears his white coat - especially if he is the teaching hospital. When he was doing both peds and IM, he would change his outfits accordingly. Peds always required a goofy tie.

I really lucked out in the sense that he loves clothes and is always appropriately dressed - whether it is black/white tie or going for a hike. He often puts me to shame However, his love for dress pants/shirts makes for expensive dry cleaning bills.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Re: So, what does the dawkter wear?

When on call: cargo pants, t-shirt, and scrub top

Not on call: dress or cargo pants, button down shirt.

I don't think he wears his white coat anymore and he refuses to wear a tie to work.

Skirt or pants when in clinic.

Scrubs when on call. (Rolled up pants since too big. I've asked the doctor to get scrubs bottoms hemmed to no avail.).

Scrubs on heavy procedure days, slacks and shirt with tie for clinic days. Always a white coat and stethoscope (cards fellow - kinda useful).

DH says he became a doctor so that he could "wear PJ's all day".

He leaves the house in a scrubs, undershirt and tennis shoes. He operates almost all day, so he rotates his shoes as he's standing on his feet every day. He ABHORS his white coat; I've only seen him wear it once, and that was for a meeting with the CFO of his hospital.

DH has a few ties left over from his intern days when they where required daily. Right now he only wears them to weddings and an annual holiday party. If anyone needs extra, I can donate some.
