    Re: ROTD: Update on Starbucks-speak

I've never heard of skinny or misto before and have been a devout Starbucks drinker for 10 years. I usually get a small coffee (I refuse to say tall too) or a small double skim latte. I still have no idea which is larger venti or grande. Whoever came up with those names must have been high.

      Re: ROTD: Update on Starbucks-speak

I ordered a skinny the other day and it was not made with sugar-free syrup.....thank goodness.....because the SF syrups taste awful. I'll have to watch out for that in the future.

Remind me never to take you to Starbucks when you visit.
I've never had so much fun then the first time I took my sister and her husband to a Starbucks - my BIL asked if they just had "regular" coffee, it was fun!

Lily - you're right. They started w/just grande and tall. Then they added Venti - and called it that b/c they're 20 ounces.

This drives my DH crazy too. It's why - on principle - he always orders a "large cafe au lait" at Starbucks. Sometimes they know right away what he wants and just ring it up, and sometimes he has to explain what it is. Cracks me up every time.
We do the same thing. We always order a medium and when they say oh a grande we say no, a medium. Then they go into an explanation. Soooo funny.

Cool, I'm apparently a trendy coffee drinker.

This thread is cracking me up!

Other than Starbucks -- nobody here has a short coffee here -- not sure WHY but I like Alison's description that the midwest is the "land of large portions."

A split drip is exactly what Nellie said -- half caf/half decaf. It's less caffine depending on what size you get, than a shot put in milk and syrup. DH gets one in the evening since post training, the QUAD mocha has been retired!

I actually like a latte with sugar free vanilla syrup but the "real stuff" is much better.

REAL peppermint mochas rock -- and not that white chocolate crap they tried to sell this year...the traditional peppermint mocha. It tastes like a FRANGO (there's some PNW lingo for you there! ).

                  Re: ROTD: Update on Starbucks-speak

For those of you who do not like coffee, the same happens when you order tea at starbucks. You have to have the appropriate lingo.

I am so glad this thread was started because it validates my hateful nature to not play along with the - what do they call themselves again - baristas??

I always like to order a "small, skim milk latte with 2 raw sugars." I no longer have a problem with my order because I am embarrased to say that the people there already know what I am going to order as soon as I walk in the door.

ETA - yes, I believe the calories saved by choosing skim milk cancels out the 2 raw sugars' caloric content. Don't burst my bubble.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I'm still waiting to read his quote on the side of a starbucks cup:

On the news today, Starbucks is going back to the $1.00 short w/ free refills. Seattle to start. Apparently they're feeling the heat from McDonalds and Dunkin donuts.

This is really is funny. We are big coffee people, DH and I, and to us either get a good coffee or pass for water. Bad coffee is like bad beer in our opinion, like you asked But the last time we visited DH's family they know of our love for good coffee, and his mother was all excited about her new find: Folgers Silk Chocolate flavored - gggaaaaaggggg. I have never had a worse coffee in my life, and didn't have the heart to tell her. I just passed when she overed more.
