I vote diva. I worked with a Chemistry professor who would have been ALL over a personal chauffeur/secretary!

(No, actually, surely it's someone with a physical disability that doesn't otherwise impair them from doing their work? Surely?)

We have an Ortho friend that was offered a driver with a ridiculously high paying job that he was offered b/c the hospital was quite a drive from where he wanted to live.

I knew one of those. The chancelor at Vanderbilt has a man servant. He drives him around and runs errands for him while the chancelor is hard at work sitting in his office being served fancy meals and such. The chancelor is about as premadona as you can get.

Sounds like the job I currently hold.

We have a doc with a driver here. Negotiated in the contract. I guess that should remind us all the everything is negotiable. Remember that when you are looking at the first "real" job. Signing bonuses to pay off credit card debt or make a house down payment are positively quaint in comparison to a car and driver request.

            Re: really?

I'd lay good money on the bet that the person who needs the driver lost his license, either due to a DWI or a medical condition. And, if you've gotta hire a driver, at least be sure that he's on-board with providing other day-to-day assistance, given what you'll have to be paying him to essentially be on-call to you.

Yup, especially back in the day when we only had one car.
