  • Chemicals in baby bottles

I just got this from a committee that I serve on through the AAIDD (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilties, formerly the AAMR)

Baby's Toxic Bottle, a new report on the hormone-disrupting BPA leaching from polycarbonate baby bottles, has gotten a lot of press lately. Most clear or tinted plastic baby bottles or polycarbonate, or #7, plastic contain BPA.

In animal studies, BPA exposure in utero is linked with estrogen disruption, affecting the developing brain – among its other possible effects on reproduction and hormonally sensitive cancers.

If you click here, http://www.babystoxicbottle.org, you can read the report, the FAQ, and

Sign a petition calling on the manufacturers of these toxic baby bottles to start producing them without BPA.

Here is the direct link to the petition: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/85 ... on_KEY=901.

Please send it to your lists.

BPA is also in many brands of sippy cups. We use Born Free sippies & SIGG metal toddler water bottles and highly recommend them. I believe that all First Years sippies are also BPA free, although their bottles are not. This site has a rundown of which products are BPA free and which are not....

Thanks for posting this. Now I am wondering about pacifiers. We use the ones given at the hospital.

Oh, Gawd, don't even get me worried about pacifiers. My kids live(d) for their pacifiers. My 3 and a half year old still takes hers at naptime and whenever she can sneak it in. (Yes, I'm workign on pulling it soon). Still, if these are tainted this is a big deal for my kids.
