ITA -- landmark info is good but I wouldn't go with the restaurant suggestions unless the review is recent. That is always the first thing I read on a United flight.

My mom is going to Patagonia in the fall w/ Geo Ex. Jealous.

I'm supposed to take a dessert to a dinner party on Saturday with a wine to match. Once I narrow down the dessert, will you help me pick the wine/dessert wine?

We'll keep you busy one way or another.

Because of that time suck of a school auction I never did find a trenchcoat. Did I miss my window?

I'd love to help out with dessert wine and I don't think you missed anything in regard to the trench. I'm still on the look out for you but haven't been able to get to the outlets yet. You can always keep an eye out on Bloomies, Nordstrom and NM sale sections of the sites. Sometimes they have amazing deals. Our local TJ Maxx just added a section "From Bloomingdale's Racks." May be yours did too. And there's always ebay.

Late to the party but http://www.chowhound.com is awesome.

And you may not enjoy as much but I love http://www.dynamist.com. I'm a fan of Virginia Postrel's books and I enjoy her blog.

            Re: Site recommendations

The dinner party is on temporary hold because their kids are sick. We'll see if it works for this Saturday. I was thinking of making a chocolate espresso mousse torte. Here's the tricky thing, someone else is bringing a dessert, probably a panna cotta with rhubarb compote. Do I even try to find something that will pair with both desserts or do I say keep it to the chocolate?

ps - thanks for the trench suggestions. I think I will try Nordstrom Rack as well.

Champagne works with everything. For something to contrast with the sweetness go for a Brut if you want to compliment the sweetness go for a Prosecco or Cava (they tend to be sweeter). Prosecco is Italian sparkling wine and Cava is Spanish version. Depending on your budget there are a number of California wineries that have French style sparkling wine at half the price of the champagne. If you want to stick to the French or American but a sweeter version, I'd suggest Demi-Sec (literal translation half-sweet). I think the sparkles are very refreshing and prefer them to still dessert wines. Moscato d'Asti is another good choice for those who don't like a lot of alcohol (it's usually only half as strong as regular sparkling wine/champagne).

Let me know ... I'm sure it's not too late for me to book a flight to Portland. Chocolate Espresson Mousse torte?? Oh ... what lovely words when put together.

since I'm the travel planning fool these days (with the wimpy little US Dollar ) I've been on priceline everyday. I like this website because people post their winning bids and thus give you tips on what to bid. It's not updated as much as I would like for the Europe section, and it's somewhat confusing at first to read. Just scroll down and you'll get the idea.
