  • Sierra Madre Fire

My dear husband's beloved mountains are on fire. My in-laws have not had to evacuate yet, but other family and friends might have too. Don't know if we have any members in the area. If we do, hope you're safe and they get the fire contained.

The fire spread through the canyon last nite as they can not fly the helicopters in the dark. My MIL woke up at 3am bc her dog was barking. She said the amount of smoke is unbelievable. She got in her to go check on some people we know and they had evacuated the the block that the orthopod that we know lives on, which is up the hill from my ILs. The evacuation/staging area is around the corner from the street they live on. She went to work but FIL stayed home. Sierra Madre is a small town, about 10,000 people. You can still buy things on store credit at some of the shops. She says it looks like a war zone [so many police and people out in the street] and that Uhaul cleaned up this weekend as there are trucks and trailers everywhere.

That's horrible. California has really had a ton of fires over the last several years. I hope there are conservation efforts to replant in the burned areas, it's devastating to see the beautiful mountains ruined.

Fire is a natural part of the life of the mountain. What isn't is the drought and the firestarters.

            People are the problem.

My MIL lives in LA county and we sat on her porch and watched the flames and the ash come over the mountains. Scary.

MIL said that the fire is about 60% contained. Here are some photos taken from a friend's house.
