Has anyone been there? Would you recommend it? I think there was a thread a while back that I will try to locate.

I have. I thought it was awesome. I would go for the all out tour, or do the add ons, i think that is the way they do it. I remember we didnt, and I felt like I really wanted to see more than I did.

And drink some of their wine. And enjoy the crunchy town of asheville.

I was there on memorial day weekend...it was nice, but pretty expensive.

figure about $50+ each...probably good to see once...

We went in February, the cheapest time of the year to go. We enjoyed ourselves, though I'm not so sure I would want to lay down $100 or more for a couple to go through. I'm sure you could still walk the gardens w/out paying for an entrance fee, and also then go to the winery (? on $ for admission to the winery). The winery was nice, but small IMO. It wasn't as an enjoyable winery as other very old wineries I've been to, but a nice pit stop. The winery is quite young, and was started to keep the home a true self sustainable estate as the milk (I think it was milk) business went belly up in the 1950's. Asheville is AWESOME, and on my list of top 3 places to go and visit. But the Biltmore... is ok, if you don't mind paying a good chunk to look at an old dead man's collection of junk ... I enjoyed the outside of the place more than inside. HTH Oh and stop by Salsa's for an amazing meal in town!

We enjoyed the Biltmore. The house itself is pretty amazing.....but the grounds are spectacular....especially when you see pictures of what the land looked like prior to the plant installation. We also love the town of Asheville.

I was just looking at going there for a vacation this August. Would that area be good to take a 1 year old?
