  • Restaurant recommendations in San Francisco

DH is going to a conference in San Francisco this coming weekend and has been tasked with finding good restaurants for the group. They're staying in Union Square, but I don't think they're limited to the area. They get a per diem of $55 per person for dinner so it doesn't necessarily have to be a bargain meal (they've already made reservations for PlumpJack Cafe ... is that any good?).

    Any ideas or recommendations?

These are two North Beach area restaurants that are my sister's faves. She just lives a block from the first one.

      Plumpjack is fabulous IMO!

If they like garlic the Stinkin Rose is really good too. I really wish I'd done a better job of keeping track of restaurants when we lived there, DH and I went to one restaurant that we LOVED but neither of us can remember what it was called. I'll keep thinking.

There is one on Russian Hill that we loved but it has been a few years since being there. I also went to some in Union Square that were recommended but not as good as this one.

I did the fixed price tasting menu. Now I want to go back.

Cool, last year I brought the gf to a conference in SF that was just next to Union Square (I think it was in the Parc 55 Hotel). As we were on a PhD-student budget, we didn't really go to any nice restaurants unfortunately. Not $55 nice anyway.

Just wanted to update and say that DH and his colleagues ended up trying 1550 Hyde Cafe and Wine Bar, and they all loved it. Thanks for the recs, everyone!
