  • Pensacola anyone?

Sorry I haven't been around much lately - DH has been out of town ALOT on job interviews. A week of me alone with the twins :horror: ... let's just say I'm glad daddy's back.
Anyway, it looks like we'll probably be moving to Pensacola FL. Anyone familiar with the area? I don't know anything about the area, and don't even know where to start researching neighborhoods and schools. Any help would be appreciated!

I wouldnt mind living in P-cola. There are some beautiful old houses in neighborhoods with huge gorgeous live oaks. The beaches there are awesome and New Orleans is just 2.5-3hrs away when you want to hit the big city. Of course, I have family in a short driving distance so that is a big draw. There are some serious religous wackos- they protest in front of restaurants all the time and it is hot as Hades, but if you are in FL already you are used to it.

Besides the regular Joes, who are the smallest group, there are 3 types of people who live in Pcola...military, religious enthusiasts, and gays (not that there's anything wrong with that. ) The religious enthusiasts' biggest beef is abortion, so you'll see protests to that all over.

Pcola has absolutely beautiful beaches and great seafood restaurants. Also, you'll be close to Destin and the beaches along Hwy 30-A (It's a beautiful day on 30-A!) including Seaside.

Here's a link to a Pensacola blog that has lots of links to Pcola info...it has taken a political lean due to the upcoming election, but if you look back you'll find Pcola info.

If you don't mind a 45 minute drive...I know where you can find a great 4bd/3bth home w/pool in a good school district

We lived in Crestview, FL (30 miles north of Destin) and Pensacola was the closest children's hospital for all things above USAF ped handlings. It is also where we went for our child neurologist. But enough of that...
There is a great school there http://www.uwf.edu/

          Here is the visitor webpage....

The local newspaper (if you want to call it that...)

          A local TV station...

There are some great places to eat there, and they have some really good organized sports for all ages. This past summer our oldest played in the state baseball tournament. It was a blast.
Like I mentioned, we didn't live in P'cola, but I was there often for school and child treatments.
There are, indeed, roaming rednecks throughout, but it isn't nearly as bad as it may sound!

Oh yeah, it is also the home to the Blue Angels and you can see them practice for free at distances much closer than an actual air show...pretty cool, at least once anyway. Then after the practice they all stand around in the naval museum and sign autographs and talk about their jobs.
