  • Do you ever?

Call the non-emergency based police line in your area to:

-report people speeding through the neighborhood? (lots of children at play here)
-noise after 10pm? (parties parties everywhere)
-suspicious persons? (this hasn't happened yet, but I think I would)

    *sigh* I'm a rat.

    Re: Do you ever?

I've called the nonemergency line to request a patrol car to drive by on a call night when I heard strange noises outside. I figure that if they have to do routine patrol duty, they might as well do it near my house.

I've called it to find out where to get fingerprints. Other than that, I call 911. We're in a big city, and things are usually more 911-worthy than 311...

        Re: Do you ever?

I've called 311 back in NY for a number of things (noise complaints among them). Here I called police twice to complain about our neighbor's partying into the wee hours.

While house hunting, we've been stopped in a few neighborhoods to ask what we're doing there.

          Re: Do you ever?

Oh yes. I've called. Not in this neighborhood though. There were a lot of loud into the wee morning hour parties at our apartment complex in AZ (ASU 'nuff said). Oh wait! I have called here for teenagers driving too fast. We live on a military base. Come on! Where are the manners and respect my grandparents raved about?

My favorite though is when I called 911 because there was a suspicious man in a rain coat peering in people's houses and jumping over fences.

It was the water meter guy.

What can i say. First time I'd lived in an honest to God neighborhood for a while.

            Re: Do you ever?

When we lived in the Boston area we called the non emergency line on our neighbors who thought it was ok to play loud music at 6:30am on a Sunday morning . When the cops showed up they were like "What the hell are you guys thinking playing music this loud at 6 in the morning!!" It was a much safer bet than me going over there and destroying their stereo!

I have called the non-emergency line a few times. We call the non-emergency line a lot from work when we have clients that we suspect are dealing.

Oh, how stupid and uninformed am I?? I hadn't even ever HEARD of 311... I didn't know there was such a thing!

                  Clearly, I've never used it...

I haven't for those reasons but I do report drivers who almost hit me when I am walking home...Philly is a rough city sometimes!
