    Re: President elect O'BAMA!!!!!!!!

McCain gave a really heartfelt speech! I am also personally touched since half of my family is from Virginia and I have heard the stories for years on how hard it was not so many years ago for them...this is truly historic.

      Re: President elect O'BAMA!!!!!!!!

Oh, man, how completely St. Louis was the reaction here last night? Completely typical. People went out and committed petty crime (namely vandalism and weapons violations). DH and I started hearing the sirens about thirty minutes after victory was called, then the gunfire started. The shooting (into the air--we hope!!) didn't stop until about 2:00 AM. DH just kept praying that he would see a lot of accidental GSWs this morning.

What on earth would have happened if McCain had won, I can only imagine.

There is a joke in St. Louis--people call guns "St. Louis fireworks" because people shoot of guns on the 4th of July.

        I agree.

I'm having trouble really getting to the root of how I feel right now.

I feel emotional and just HAPPY.

Now what can I do to help? I'm on it.

For Asian Americans as well (and all other minorities in the US, I would assume) it was an emotional night. I cried. Anything and everything is possible.

I got about 20 emails this morning from friends in Europe who are over the moon.

I'm just plain tired. We had helicopters flying over us till quite late. I'm glad we didn't try to get down to Grant Park. I think we wouldn't have gotten home until 2-3 in the morning.

Mine too! Then this morning they were ticked that I wouldn't let them color Indiana & North Carolina in blue yet. It was a GREAT idea, and kept all 4 boys (we were at a friend's house) occupied & interested.

I tried to resize it! (3 times)

Anyway, here is ds's map. He had to go to bed before he finished it, but he got up this morning watching the ticker to fill it in. I see that he took the liberty of making Arizona blue.

What an exciting day, I wish I could have voted too!
I too have had messages from my friends and family around the world, everyone is happy that Obama will be the next president.

I am right there with you my friend. We are both registered (E actually registered for the first time this year so he could vote for Obama and on Prop 8) in CA and Prop 8 was huge for us.

I admired John McCain's speech and it really reminded me of the 2000 McCain. It came across very heartfelt and sincere.
Wow, where was THIS McCain on the campaign trail? He came off as a class act last night. Arizona, you are lucky to have such an American hero and icon. You should be proud of your prodigal son.

I have to agree that I feel like the country has a newfound sense of pride, hope, and acknowledgement that we can change and alter ourselves to meet the challenges of the future by electing this truly historic man. It was an emotional night. I'm just so darn proud of of us.

Well, we're used to painful defeat so we'd just go one about the day.

This is such a new and refreshing feeling.

DH and I even had one that we did. It really kept the kids engaged last night. I recorded Obama's speech to show Isabella this morning since she was already asleep. I wish they could truly comprehend how big this is for our country. Gracie was still up during Obama's speech and she kept asking why DH and I were crying. The best way I could think of to explain it to her was that people who have daddy's color of skin (although he's hispanic, not black) weren't able to be president in the past and so this was a big deal and we were happy.

I've voted in every election since I was 18 and I have NEVER voted for someone who has won. So I definitely know the feeling of the painful defeat. I was actually beginning to believe my vote was cursed!

I don't get why people take this so personally--either in victory or defeat, to be honest. Be magnamious in victory and dignified in defeat. I mean, perspective!--this is America. If Obama goes nutty left, he'll lose the conservative Dems. If he goes centrist, then he won't be the socialist the right fears. He's not going to be the salvation that the Obama-Koolaid drinkers hope, and he's not going to the end-of-America, as the Armaggedon-prognosticators swear. Just keep ENGAGED in the political process, no matter who you voted for! An unchecked government or an indifferent populace makes for bad leadership, regardless of party in power.
