  • The residency application process

[color=#404040]My hubby is in the process of applying for a residency....preliminary medicine and radiology. How soon will he hear from programs? Has heard from some, but none of the Boston "Big 3" (MGH, BI Deaconess, Brigham and Women's). does that mean no? or nothing? Anyone know?

BTW, this process is awful!

It is hard to say. I would check ERAS to verify that the programs have gotten all of the information and to see if the deans letter is in. Some programs won't offer invites until it is in. We have gotten a few rejection letters too.

      Welcome to the boards...

As for Rads, you can check out this site to get an idea of which programs have sent out invites. MGH has sent out two waves already and the other Boston/Harvard programs have not yet. http://www.auntminnie.com/forum/tm.aspx ... 50&mpage=8

      Good luck!

The M.D. SO said around march is when anything inside of match is complete.
If you used ERAS outside of match, then it's up to the program in a case-by-case basis.

I know what you mean about nerve-wracking: we have 4 interviews to switch residencies, and some crossed fingers!! Hang in there!

As the others have said, it is early yet.
We did find that some programs don't get back to you at all, but you will get either invites, waitlist invites, or rejections from most.

          Good luck with the match!

The match is underway for military people- they'll know by December. Other than that? Good luck!

By "hear from", do you mean for interviews or if he has been to given a spot? DH's program has been interviewing for a few weeks now. If your partner is going through the match, he'll find out the same day everyone else does in March. They tell applicants if they've matched on one day, than about 2-3 days later they tell them where. It gives applicants and programs a chance to scramble to get/fill slots. I'm not completely sure how it works when someone doesn't go through the match system, though. Sorry.
