I got a funky piece of art (which was supposed to be last years gift but we never found anything that jumped out at us until now), a charm bracelet, a turn table (so we've been listening to all of our 80's albums!!!), and new slippers to replace the ones that Petey ate.

All in all it was a very nice Christmas!

      A HONEYMOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you read my post on another thread, we have been married two years with no honeymoon or even an vacation that was't connected to a medical meeting. My most romatic idea of a vacation is Mackinac Island in Michigan. Did you see the movie "Somewhere In Time" with Jane Seymour & CHristopher Reeve? Set in the Grand Hotel on the island? Well, my husband gave me a Cuisanart Hand Blender/Food Chopper and when I opened the box, inside with the blender were Grand Hotel Reservations and plane tickets for July!!!!!!!!!! I swear I think the beeper doesn't even reach there.

Luanne!!! That sounds fantastic! I have been to Mackinac (sp?) Island. As a kid. It was magical even then.

I am sooooooo happy your husband surprised you with something that is so romantic. Now you'll have to count down the weeks until you go!

That's so wonderful, Luanne! You must be so excited and thrilled! I'm so happy for you!

I got KitchenAid Professional Mixer. You know - the kind that is huge and heavy and beautiful and can mix the bejeesus out of egg whites and anything else for that matter! I'm excited to use it but at the same time, it's so very intimidating! But I love it!

That is just the coolest--I love that movie! What a lovely, lovely present!!

I got three pairs of 'art house' earrings, a tin box of rubs from Dean & Deluca, some books, the soundtrack CD to "Monsoon Wedding" and a cranberry red shawl. (And a bad cold, which I would return if I could.)

OOH!!! If you love yours even half as much as I love mine, it'll be your favorite thing in the kitchen. Now you can make all those things that have to be beaten for 10 minutes (like the flourless chocolate cake), and wait until you see what it does with bread dough...

I love my Kitchenaid, It is heavy to move around (I don't have enough space to leave it out) but it is wonderful to use.

Luanne-that sounds awesome!! That's cool that he even thought of a clever way to give it to you!

And I second (or third?) that the KitchenAid mixer is incredible. I have one and I swear it has changed my life! Our mashed potatoes have never been smoother and I can get a batch of cookies ready and let it mix while I'm measuring the other ingredients at the same time!

I got a couple of sweaters which were totally something I would have picked out for myself--I love sweaters! My best gift of all was from the in-laws who are always more than generous. They got me the coolest printer-copier-scanner-faxer!! It was way more than we could ever afford and it has made my business run so much easier!!!

DH is always so personal in his gifts, not! He gave me a gift card and told me to spend a day at the spa, get my hair done, whatever. The spa he wanted me to go to is the Morengo Institute (sp) here in Columbus. Its very hoity toity and definately not my style. A massage will run you like $180 for an hour. I think not. I'm sure I will end up spending it on the kids like I always do. He also got me a case of wine that he thought I liked. I do like it but it was the wrong year and this year was not the greatest, so it looks like my wine chiller will be stocked for quite some time, LOL!

Luanne -- That is so awesome! You will have such a wonderful time.

I also have a huge mixer...it was a wedding gift. It's the best but I agree -- it's really heavy and a pain to move around a lot.

Sounds like everyone got really nice things. Luanne, have fun on your honeymoon! Growing up in Michigan, my family visited Mackinac Island frequently because my grandparents lived an hour away. I haven't been back for several years, but I am dying to take my husband there someday. I remember actually being on the island while "Somewhere in Time" was being filmed. I think I was 10 or something. It was pretty neat. You will love the Grand Hotel. You should rent some bikes to ride around the island and try the fudge!
